Alex Acker departs NBA, returns to Europe

Alex Acker has signed on to play with Italian club Armani Jeans Milano for the upcoming 2009-10 season, bringing the swingman back to the Euroleague after an unsuccessful second attempt at the NBA.

The 6-2 Acker played sparingly in 25 NBA games last season, averaging just 2.9 points in eight minutes per game  for the Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Clippers.

Acker was discovered by Chauncey Billups in a pickup game, and was initially selected by the Pistons with the last pick in the 2005 NBA draft (#60).  That season, he participated in just five games with the Pistons as he spent most of the season in the NBDL with the Fayetteville Patriots.

Between his two quick NBA stints, the 26-year old point guard spent two seasons in the Euroleague; with Olympiacos in 2006-07, and with F.C. Barcelona in 2007-08.

With Olympiacos, Acker was terrific averaging 14.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.2 steals in 33 minutes per game for the Greek power before having a much less successful season with Barcelona the following year (5.5 points, 18 minutes).
