The University of Michigan‘s historic run through the NCAA baseball tournament all the way to the College World Series has been a joy to watch, but it has been anything but easy. They ran across the #1 overall seed UCLA in the super regionals and required all three games to advance past the Bruins. They were up and down against Creighton, but ultimately defeated them to move on.
We’re hoping that we don’t jinx the Wolverines by saying this, but since the team arrived in Omaha last week for the College World Series, they took their game to another level and things seem to have really come together for this Michigan baseball team.
Led by an ‘odd couple‘ of pitchers, left-hander Tommy Henry and right-hander Karl Kauffmann, the Wolverines are 4-0, including an impressive 15-3 thumping of Texas Tech. They’re now just one win away — after defeating Vanderbilt 7-3 in game one of the championship series — from being crowned NCAA Baseball National Champions for the first time since.

Michigan Baseball Easy Team to Cheer for
On top of Henry and Kauffmann’s great play, the Michigan Wolverines have shown an impressive balanced offense which has served to wear down opposing pitchers, and their team defense anchored by Big 10 Conference Player of the Year Jordan Brewer, has been consistent throughout the entire playoffs.
It’s easy to cheer for this team even if you’re not Michigan Alumnae as the team is packed with diversity and has seemed to enjoy getting to this point as much as the fans have. The team is having fun and it shows.
“They’ve been playing one game, one pitch at a time and truly enjoying themselves on the baseball field,” Michigan’s Head Coach Erik Bakich told the Detroit Free Press. “It’s the greatest compliment that we could get, to have — whether it’s taking us down the elevator or a random dad and kid just saying, ‘Wow, your players look like they’re having so much fun on the baseball field, they look so loose.’ It’s the greatest compliment we could get.”
