We’re coming up on late April and the NBA playoffs are in full swing as of this post. As with every playoff season, there’s a few contenders that have real chances at he title and the rest of the teams hoping to steal a game or a series from one another.
What’s clear is that even without DeMarcus Cousins and blowing a historic 31 point cushion, the Golden State Warriors led by Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant are the defending champions until a team eliminates them. After the Warriors, the other title contenders are actually have more contenders in the East than the West this year. We’ll get deeper into the contenders in a moment. Let’s first talk about the current standings and bracket.

The NBA’s first round began April 16th, 2019 and will continue until there is one team left. Each series is only completed when the first team reaches four games in the best of seven series.
The Eastern Conference Come Up
Paired with the Warriors in the West are the Houston Rockets. The Rockets are coming together and hitting threes around defending MVP James Harden and Chris Paul. Their chemistry is gelling very well and at the right time of the year. Don’t let their #4 seed fool you or what you thought about the team halfway through the season, the current Rockets are a powerhouse and they’re on a mission.
Out in the Eastern Conference, the top four seeds in the East can realistically advance to the NBA Finals. The Milwaukee Bucks are relevant again with MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo supported by two players in the prime of their powers: Khris Middleton and Eric Bledsoe.
The Toronto Raptors again are one of the top teams and this year’s bracket but in the place of Demar DeRozan, the Raps are led by Kawhi Leonard and likely Most-Improved player Pascal Siakam. Kyle Lowry is still there, and if the Raps hope to advance on, they’ll need more from the All-Star guard. And like the West, let’s not underestimate the four seed in the East.
Despite losing to Brooklyn Nets in game 1, the Philadelphia 76ers now seem to be clicking. The Sixers chances lay on the huge shoulders of Joel Embiid‘s health. Like the Houston Rockets, the Boston Celtics are also coming together at the right time under the scoring prowess and leadership of Kyrie Irving – the problem with the Celtics is that those are the two same attributes that will hold back the Celtics.
