Did Jeff Van Gundy find his new Patrick Ewing in Anthony Davis?

Patrick Ewing entered the NBA as a college superstar from Georgetown that was the only player who could stop Michael Jordan in the paint. He averaged more than 20 points and around 10 rebounds in 13 out of the 15 seasons with the New York Knicks. His biggest success was reaching the NBA Playoff Finals two times and loosing to the Houston Rockets led by Hakeem Olajuwon and the San Antonio Spurs led by the admiral David Robinson.

Anthony Davis is a similar big player with incredible physical attributes that can spread the floor with his mid-range jump shot and is very good at protecting the floor. The only difference between Anthony Davis and Patrick Ewing is that the future hall of fame inductee averaged 20 points in his rookie season opposite to Anthony’s 13.

The two players can have even more similar pats if Jeff Van Gundy decides to sign with the New Orleans Pelicans this summer. This would mean that the experienced Jeff Van Gundy will have its third chance to win the NBA playoffs with a quality big man after Patrick Ewing and Yao Ming in Houston.
