Kobe Bryant Air-Balls First Shot in NBA Return (Preseason)

Kobe Btyant air balls first shot in return to NBA

Kobe Bryant was certainly on the marquee with the Los Angeles Lakers pre-season game against the Denver Nuggets was moved to second billing, in a font size much smaller than the main attraction. This isn’t any different than normal, but more eyes were on Bryant last night as the NBA superstar returned to an NBA court for the first time in over 10 months.

Bryant missed most of the 2013-14 NBA season because of an injury. A concern as the future Hall of Famer is definitely on the downhill of his career coming back from a major injury at the age of 36.

With the game at zero, the game’s first possession saw Kobe coming off a screen and attempting a fadeaway jumpshot from the free throw line. The defender, Aaron Afflalo was squeezed off and a couple steps behind. Kobe rose up and short-armed the shot. The Kobe-haters must have loved to see/hear that Bryant air-balled that first shot; it was woefully short, brushing the net without drawing any rim.

Unfazed as he is, Kobe came down on the next possession and banged out a 14-foot turnaround jumper over Afflalo.

What would you have bet that Kobe would have air-balled his next shot? I’m not a big Kobe Bryant fan, but even I wouldn’t waste money wagering. The all-world shooting guard has shot hundreds of thousands of shots and his arrogance here plays in his favor especially in the face of haters.

Kobe ended the game with a very respectable 13 points on 5-12 shooting. He also had 5 assists and 3 turnovers in 21 minutes of play.

Oh, and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Denver Nuggets 98-95.

The new point guards for the Lakers, Jordan Clarkson and Jeremy Lin didn’t shoot well from the field, but the two spearheaded the Laker attack. Clarkson led Los Angeles with 14 points, while Jeremy Lin dished out a game-high 10 assists for the Lakers (I still can’t believe it).

Ty Lawson led the Nuggets with 14 points and 6 assists. Timofey Mozgov added 13 for the Nugs. Check out the full boxscore.
