Jordan Says He Would Take Kobe Over LeBron

LeBron James’ incredible streak of six games with 30 or more points and 60% field goal shooting has sparked a heated debate recently among basketball fans involving comparisons to Michael Jordan. Some feel James is the next Jordan and some feel there will never be another player to touch Jordan’s greatness. Recently, we learned who Jordan thought the best player in the game was today, and it wasn’t LeBron James.

In an interview with NBA TV, Jordan said he would pick Kobe Bryant over James for his team, arguing that Bryant’s five NBA championships set him apart.

“Five beats one every time I look at it,” Jordan said. “And not that (James) won’t get five. He may get more than that, but five is bigger than one.”

Ironically, that argument is the same one Jordan supporters use when favoring him as the greatest player of all-time. Of course, his statistical figures factor into it, but the six NBA championships and unblemished record in the NBA Finals are what make Jordan stand taller (figuratively) than other NBA legends.

With that said, maybe James has time to change Jordan’s mind. He is currently in his 10th season as a pro, whereas Bryant is in his 17th, and James’ Heat definitely looks like they have plenty more title runs in them. Considering Jordan is known to be James’ idol, it must have irked him somewhat to not be picked over Kobe. However, James wouldn’t let that show.

“It doesn’t matter to me,” James said during the Heat’s shootaround before Thursday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to ESPN.com. “If you take Kobe one and I go second, it doesn’t matter. I don’t get too involved in what guys say about me or if you take Kobe or if you take LeBron. As long as I’m on the floor and I make plays for my teammates, I don’t do what I do for other people’s approval.”

With many years left to play in his NBA career, all James can do to prove he belongs in the conversation is to continue to wow us and win titles. Needless to say, the recent streak he and the Heat are on has our attention.
