When Does March Madness Take Place?

March Madness officially kicks off with the 2024 Selection Sunday broadcasts for the men’s and women’s NCAA Division I basketball tournaments. The TV shows are on March 17th, 2024 after all of the conference championship games are over for the day. The men’s show airs at 6PM Eastern Time and the Women’s is on at 8 PM on ESPN. The first March Madness games take place on March 19th and 20th with the First Four across both the Men’s and Women’s tournament brackets. The games continue mostly over the weekends after the opening rounds until the Final Four and Championship games that occur towards the end of the first week in April.
