Team Pilipinas routs Indons to rule SEABA

MANILA, Philippines – Powerade-Team Pilipinas cruised to a 98-68 win over hosts Indonesia to claim the 8th Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) crown at the Angkasapura Lanud Basketball Hall in Medan, Indonesia.

The Yeng Guiao-coached RP 5 thus secured one of the two slots for the FIBA-Asia men's basketball championship in Taijin, China this August. Indonesia, for placing second in the four-day tournament, also earned a spot in the FIBA-Asia meet.

After a tight first quarter, where Indonesia even held a slim lead, the PBA-backed national squad broke the game wide-open in the second period using a 12-0 run for a 46-32 halftime lead.

An Arwind Santos pass to a streaking James Yap, who finished the fastbreak play, capped that scoring spurt for the RP 5.

It was smooth sailing after that with the closest the Indonesians could get is at 60-43 with 4:31 left in the third period.

They enjoyed their biggest lead of 39 points, 95-56, with four minutes left in the final period.

How can this RP team beat China if they are not capable of shooting at least 10 3's per game. Look at Toroman's team. They shoot better from the 3 than this Powerade team because there are many pure shooters in Toroman's team.

they just have to practice more, the problem is that when they go back to their PBA mother teams they are not required to practice that much with their shots from beyond rhe 3-point arc as most of them are not given that kind of role in their mother teams.

Playing to a diffrent venue can be a factor. We may never know right?based on the pictures i even question if the court itself is FIBA standards..

first of all, my congratulations to the RP-Poweraide team for winning the SEABA tourney!

now on the issue, i somewhat expected them to shoot poorly from the 3-point arc in this tourney as they don't have Helterbrand and Reyes who are both good 3-point shooters. only Yap is the legitimate shooter on the team with Pennisi, De Ocampo, Miller, Baguio and Santos being average shooters.

i'm expecting an improvement of their outside shooting once Helterbrand and Reyes return to play for the team.
