Sao Paulo/Brazil- Due to unforeseen circumstances connected to their travel itinerary, the women’s national team of Lithuania was not able to enter the host country of the FIBA World Championship for Women in Brazil. The team from Lithuania was forced to travel, due to the cancellation of the flight originally scheduled, on their way to Brazil via French Guyana. Brazilian law foresees that anybody who wishes to enter Brazil from French Guyana needs a vaccination, which the Lithuanian team, not originally planning to travel through French Guyana, did not have.

The Brazilian authorities are currently exploring every possible means with the ministry of foreign affairs and ministry of health to enable the Lithuanian team to enter Brazil. Unfortunately up to 18:00 hours Brazilian time on Monday, 11th September this has not yet been possible.

During today’s Technical Meeting with all teams, the FIBA Sports Director Lubomir Kotleba gave the following information to all participating teams on the possible scenarios:

If Lithuania arrives before their first game against Australia on 12th September at 17:30, they can participate in the FIBA World Championship for Women without any further consequences.

If Lithuania are not able to appear on the court for their first game against Australia on 12th September up until 17:45 they will lose this game by default with the score of 0:2 and one classification point (a win counts 2 classification points, a loss/default 1 classification point).

If Lithuania arrives for their second game against Canada on 13th September at 17:30 they will be able to continue to participate in the FIBA World Championship without any further consequences.

If Lithuania are not be able to appear on the court for their second game against Canada on 13th September up until 17:45 they will lose this game by default with the score of 0:2 and one classification point and will be eliminated from the tournament. All further games of Lithuania will be counted as a loss by default for Lithuania and a win for their opponents.

All the teams present at the Technical Meeting including the Lithuanian representative unanimously accepted the above mentioned scenarios and expressed their hope that Lithuania will be able to participate at the championship.

Lithuania was drawn into Group B of the FIBA World Championship for Women together with Australia, Canada and Senegal. The three first-placed teams earn a spot in the Eighth Final Round, which will be played in two groups of six.

Seems like Liths are going to eat Canada alive after 1 and a falf quarter. Defence is just perfect for a women bbal. The only reason I'm still in doubts, are whose 4 days spent under pressure. GL girls

          Lithuania 74 Senegal 63

This was a much tougher game for some reason as they were losing at half time. Didnt take them long to get in front in the 3rd and after that was it - game over...

Suggest all the travelling stuffing them around had kicked in. Anyway they get a rest now before the serious games...

do you have any preparation results?
'cause it's kind of hard to compare their strength with the rest of the teams...
they've lost three games to France. I know that..

                Lithuania 67 - 84 Brasil
LTU: Sulciute 18 pts, Streimikyte 17 pts.
BRA: Iziane 18 pts, Alessandra 16 pts.
3rd quarter was tragical for Lith girls which they lost by 11 pts and after that the winner was decided. I think very big factor can be points difference, because this group is so tough and so equal!

this is unfreakingbelievable. I was expecting the game to start in about four hours.. and it's already over?! since then do you play WC games in the morning, for crying out loud!?

                  this is unbelievable, just unbelievable..

regarding the result.. bad. it would be nice to have a true center in Baranauskaite or Marciauskaite.. it's all clear about the first one (she's expecting a child or something like that?), but we still don't know why Marciauskaite chose to stay at home..
anyways, at least we are in the tournament at the moment I believe in our team - if they will not make it far, that should not be their foult. we're in the tournament and we only lost one game out of three so far, so not much to worry, yet..
                  stop russia

Yup, that's true. And we could see it clearly in this game. I don't know statistics, but I think our girls was outrebounded by 15 or even 20 balls

                      Cuba 2-3

it's kind of unbelievable that Russia is playing so bad...
in the preparation period they've won both games against the same team of Czech Republic... the first game they've won with 46 points difference and the second with 30 or so...
                        and they've lost yesterday...
they haven't lost to France in the last five years or so, but they've lost..
they will probably end up fourth so we will have Aussie - Russia game so early in the tournament...
