I take it that Sirio San Paulo, past winners of the Intercontinental cup and numerous other titles-are in the 4th division?

Don't be surprised; many South American clubs that were very big during 70's 80's and 90's have disappeared, or simply went down because of financial issues.

BRA – Flamengo flying in Brazil but Araraquara upset Universo/BRB

RIO DE JANEIRO (LNB) - Flamengo are in a rich vein of form heading into the Liga Sudamericana.

The competition tips off on February 17 and Flamengo, who lost out to Universo/BRB in their battle to reach the FIBA Americas League Final Four, have rebounded to win all four of their top flight games in Brazil.

In Sao Paulo, meanwhile, Lupo/Araraquara claimed their first victory by defeating Universo 77-64.

Fresh off their FIBA Americas League title triumph over Halcones Xalapa, Universo battled hard and went to half-time with the game knotted at 37-37 but Lula Ferreira’s team then ran out of steam.

Araraquara outscored Universo 18-8 and went on to claim a decisive triumph.

Neto, Luisinho and Arnaldinho each had 15 points for the team from Sao Paulo.

For Universo, who suffered their first setback of the campaign, Arthur had 13 points and Estevam Ferreira 10.

This NBB is heads and shoulders more interesting then the previous Brazilian championships. There are around 6 very good teams and it's amazing what a minimal of structure and stability can do for a league. I'm very optimistic about the future of brazilian basketball.

According to the official NBB Blog the All-Star game will be played at March, 22 in the Maracanãzinho, Rio de Janeiro.

Althought it's still not set in stone, the chances are that the coaches will pre-select two lists, one with the top players under 24 years old and the other with the best over 24 years old.

Then it will be open for the fans to vote who they think should play the game.

The event will also have a 3 point competition and a dunk contest.

    It should be fun.

Amazing, another 1 point loss to Pinheiros.

I think this team really needs a new coach, but unfortunally I don't think there will be any changes during the season.

Great. Two wins in a row, maybe this will be the turning point for the Pinheiros season.

Good video. There are some incredibly athletic plays there. Some of those players look very young. I wish I could understand Portuguese, because I'd like to know more about those players.

Anyhow, the videos show great athleticism and very bad defense, which is usually the way Top 10 plays are on ESPN!
