    • Eurohopes about Eray Büyükcangaz (04) in the ABA LIGA final 8

Who was the top U17 player?
Eray Buyukcangaz (’04) from Buducnost Voli and Nikola Djurisic (‘04). Buyukcangaz is a tall and long PG with an amazing basketball IQ. He has a bright future is in front of him.
Djurisic is a strong, Euroleague type of SG who has all the tools to become a great basketball player. Needs to improve his shooting range.

Eray shot with 40% from the perimeter and contributed very well for his team being one year younger. He and Efe Tahmaz of Partizan (04) developing very well on the Balkan peninsinsula. The 04 generation of Turkey could really turn out to be the generation with the most upside.

To mention some interesting names we have:

      PG:
      Eray Büyükcangaz
      Ege Tan Yildizoglu

      Forwards:
      Berke Büyüktuncel
      Yigit Hamza Mestoglu
      Efe Tahmaz

These five guys with some sleepers have really talent to make it to the top European level at least. Especially our both guards are very very talented.

Those rankings are of course trash. But the combination of skillset, offensive talent, feel for game + body and most likely future height of 210-215 will make him always one of the top talents of his generation. In reality he is a special talent, especially for turkish bb. We hope that he will be our Porzingis, Pokusevski, Wembanyama. He is already over 205 without shoes(not 203 or 200, or 180:-)), you must just watch his matches for the U15 NT and compare him to Mehmet Efe Demirel(05, C/PF, Efes), check the photos next to Emin Kara(06, C, Efes), Halil Ibrahim Aksoy(05, C, Besiktas) etc. then you will see how big he is.....

Really good games from Eray Büyükcangaz. Best thing is, he is no more longer PG. This position is too difficult. Even in U16 NT he played most time as secondary ballhandler last year. SG/PG/SF is the best for him.
In 2017 Eray Büyükcangaz was for me second best prospect of the turkish U13 championship. Best prospect was the PG Derin Mark Saran. Most dominant player was Atakan Karayaylali from Efes(now Tarsus). Eray was always big for his position therefore he has no problem to take his talent to the U16 level for example. Small players like Derin Mark Saran have problems with this. Even bigger problems have small and mature players like Atakan Karayaylali. This is the reason why everybody is looking for big kids for each position.

On these photos we can see the U16 NT. Berkay Dönmez is on his way to become too big for SF/SG. Ata Özbek and Ali Oralkan are not much bigger as before 1 year. Tolga Öz is clearly bigger. Berkay Dönmez is better made for SF, Ata, Ali and Tolga for PF. No Mehmet Efe Demirel on the photos.

        • Cedi Osmans TB2L team is starting next season. Cedi Osman Academy teams coach will be Hasan Serbest (right of Cedi). The goal is to develop prospects. Will be looking close of how they do.

          • Here is our U18 roster for the summer challenge games in Europe.

            Kuzey Livaneli-Bahçeşehir Koleji
Buğra Çal, Kerem Kuthan Konan, Oğuzhan Göktepe, Samet Yiğitoğlu, Uğur Efe Sezer-Beşiktaş JK Icrypex
            Baran Aslan, Eren Deniz-Fenerbahçe Beko
            Efe Mert Şekeroğlu-Galatasaray
            Ege Tan Yıldızoğlu-Mersin BBGSK
Karahan Tuan Efeoğlu, Zekeriya Yiğit Tekin, Efe Vatan Orion-Nadir Gold İstanbul Basket
Arda Duraklar, Emre Girgin, Mustafa Faruk Yerkazanoğlu-Ö.Gelişim Koleji
            Haktan Yavaş-Pınar Karşıyaka
            Berke Büyüktuncel-Tofaş
Derin Mark Saran-Asheville School / ABD
            Eray Büyükcangaz-Buducnost Voli / Karadağ
            Efe Tahmaz-Partizan / Sırbistan
Selimcan Paydaş-Saint James School / ABD

Yiğit Hamza Mestoğlu-UCAM Murcia CB/ İspanya

The team consist of many talented guys from the 2004 generation which means one year younger guys. Especially interesting is the guard rotation with

Ege Tan Yildizoglu who had a good season in the third Turkish league against grown men
Eray Büyükcangaz also had a good season with Buducnost

Both have chances to be drafted.

Yigit Tekin and Derin Mark Saran

Also very curious about Partizan forward Efe Tahmaz and Murcia guy Yigit Mestoglu and Tofas forward Berke Büyüktuncel.

Unlike the other generations the center position is fairly weak in this team but the forward and guard rotation is very good and deep.

            • Yigit Hamza Mestoglu had a great game today for UCAM Murcia in the U18 tournament against Zaragosa. He played with 22 Points (2/4 three pointer) and 5 steals and carried his team to the win. If his team wins the next game Murcia will be in the quarter finals.

Our U16 roster and I am really eager to see the one year younger 06 Demir Dogan who is listed already with 6'8 6'9 and he is potentially the best prospect or one of the best in his generation. His playing style reminds of Nikola Jovic 03

Turkey is the most unfair country in sports, zero fairplay. Now we have the brother of Tarik Biberovic in this team(Faruk) and Jihad El Khatib, his father was the big, selfish libanese scorer in the 2000s.

The thing with the under age players is not good, because we are doing this since 15 years with almost all "important" turkish prospects and the result is not good. Even players like Tolga Kaan Birer(98, C) were in the U16 european championship as under age player, he had always zero potential. The second point is, France, Spain, Lithuania, Serbia don´t do that or in very few situations and that shows that this is not good.

Demir Dogan should be one of the leaders if the coach gives him a big role and of course the most promising player. Yagiz Aksu is a special player too, especially when we see how untalented our guards/scorers are in all our generations. High IQ scorer, great shot creater. Some high potentials in the 05 generation too, PG Özgür Cengiz should be the leader. I´m a big fan of C/PF Mehmet Efe Demirel, maybe one day we could call him NBA prospect. And we will see the great 2005 generation of Efes. But first of all, it will be interesting how our players will react after 1,5 years without 1 single game.

I´m missing some names, Alp Sarikaya(SG, Fener) is most likely too talented as a driver, too fast for a turkish player, therefore not in team, same for Burak Fehmi Kuzu(Besiktas) and the very good shooter Can Cevikel(Tofas).

Wow, what's the story behind the big Lebanese hero's son playing for Turkey?

                    • Watched all the games of U19 so far. Japan was maybe not a big deal but the game showed again some hints that I am gonna trying to write down...

The team was the youngest in the tournament and gave 3 2004 born guys relatively big roles which is good. I really coulndnt care less about the results. We were always very successful in those tournaments and it didnt pay off.

Lets start with Adem Bona: he wasnt as present as he was in the last tournaments but there are indeed some developments. Two years ago he couldnt give hand off passes now he isnt great but a passable passer. There is not much to say about his defensive upside. He is an all defensive team prospect who also can play some face up and some post games. Surely he is still a TO prone when he gets under pressure. NBA with this defensive upside should be clear and he will stay in the States.

Considering his abilities he is the most needed guy for the NT.

Tibet Görener: A guy who couldnt live up to the expectations though the shooting is not the problem. He was weak but he also didnt play for a season plus Covit there doesnt seem to have a problem with his mechanics. His defensive attitude though is a big plus. He turned from a sleeping guy on the court with 0 defense to a guy who jumps to every ball. He has some deficiencies guarding on 1 vs. 1 but one of the reasons for that is his slim body. He needs to gain weight. He seems to have a good understanding to the team defense. Perimeter defense, close outs, weak side defense was ok.

I dont think NBA is possible but EL is easily possible in some years with this body and attitude. Of course he needs to work more intensely.

                      2004 guys:

The youngest in the Turkish team and the third youngest in the entire tournament with the biggest role of a young guy in this tournament as well was Berke Büyüktuncel. He could perform very well due to his early developed body and great frame. Still sloppy he can really go to the rim and can decide very well in full speed. A very good gravity passer. He lacks athleticism though. Shooting is not very consistent but he has a very high release and he always leans back which makes contesting his shot very difficult. I am sure he will be an ok spot up shooter.

Defense is his strength. A very solid weak side shot blocker. Chases his man always. Maybe he lacks some verticality but he has a very solid frame and fast legs which makes him able to guard 2-4 for sure. That he lacked some strength to finish is understandable and ok.

Ege Tan Yildizoglu: One of the two guard prospects we can hope for the future. Of course he had a tough time but being the guard in a wc 2 years younger isnt easy. I liked his defensive awareness and this was the most important part of his game. Creativity is there.

Sarper David Mutaf: solid shooter with a solid offensive package but he needs to learn to defend.

                      • OK, after the tournament so far clear things.

Nevertheless, Tibet did a good job. I am ok with his overall game. We couldnt create enough open looks for him and Mutaf but his overall game is promising.

The winner of this tournament is the late 2004 born Buyuktuncel. He has a nice package of skill set for the next level.

Loser of the tournament. FB guys but especially Yigit Onan.

                        Far too early for Yildizoglu.

                        • Alperen Sengün got a green room invitation and will shake hands with Adam Silver with his team cap. The other European who got in invitation is the German Franz Wagner.

Alperen Sengün is strongly considered to get drafted between 8 and 14. I would love seeing him with SA Spurs or with the Hornets. There is also a small chance to fall down to 16 imo due to his defensive limitations.

It shows how fast things change. Garuba and Prkacin were those highest ranked for quite long time (Garuba still should be drafted high though). Such guys as Alocen and Hukporti withdraw. A year ago no-one could predict that Sengun and Wagner will be top Euro picks in 2021 NBA drafts.
LTU NT will snatch Eurobasket 2029 title with this roster:

                            Jokubaitis, Marciulionis, Laurencikas
                            Indrusaitis, Brazdeikis, Rubstavicius
                            Buzelis, Lelevicius
                            Murauskas, Sirvydis

Basketball developments are hardly linear. Garuba got a green room invitation but he is with his NT so should still be a top 20 pick.
