  • Slask Wroclaw - end of team, end of history...

Founded in 1947, Asco Slask has turned Wroclaw into a basketball city known not only in Poland, but all around Europe. Slask won six Polish League titles in the 1965-1981 period and then again in 1987, but established a dynasty in the 1990's, winning 10 league titles in 12 seasons through 2002 with players like Maciej Zielinski, Dominik Tomczyk or Adam Wojcik. The perennial Polish champs lost their grip on the Polish League in 2002-03, the first year in which the team knocked hard at the door of the Top 16. In 2003-04, Slask stepped strong from the start, winning its first three encounters in the Euroleague behind an outstanding Lynn Greer and holding a 6-4 record with four regular season games to go. Unfortunately, Slask lost all those games and finished the regular season in a complicated six-way tie at 6-8. That marked the club's best record ever in Europe, but it was not good enough to advance to the Top 16. Slask won the Polish Cup for a third time since 1999 later in the season. It then rolled through the Polish League finals, but an emerging Prokom Trefl Sopot, the new basketball force in Poland, managed to take its first-ever title. Prokom has been the team to beat in Poland since then, but Slask stays competitive. In 2005, Slask reached the ULEB Cup eighthfinals before being swept by Maroussi. The 17-time Polish champions today stop playing in DBE

Kurtinaitis could have gone to Lietuvos rytas, since he had a serious juicy offer, but decided to stay in Wroclaw.
    Looks like a bad choice..

However, I feel sad for Slask team and fans.

This the end of the organisation - Śląsk Wrocław SSA - having rights to play as a Śląsk in the top polish league. But there still will be WKS Śląsk Wrocław playing in the 3rd division (now reserves team) and all junior teams of the WKS Śląsk Wrocław.

If there won't be new organisation this season, I'm sure that it will be created to play next season...

It took more time than one season, but Śląsk Wrocław will be back next season.

          With a new coach:

and probably Adam Wójcik on the roster.
