I don't exactly see anything wrong about it. All in all he has German ancestors, it's a quite differente case from players that get a FYROMian, Bulgarian or Georgian passport even if they have nothing to do with those countries or stepped there for a few hours. If the player's interested and there are valid reasons for a naturalisation, so be it.

both were overlooked by the Bosnian federation and playing in Slovenia, requested for citizenship (to make it easier with the EU and Visa issues), can't recall on what exactly was going on with Čapin (that was few years ago), but Emir played for Slovan's junior team, expected an invitation for U18 and as he didn't get one for U20 and as his passport appeared just in time, he decided to play for Slovenia U20 - he exploded there and made BiH U18 coach look like... hm...Originally posted by robbe
BiH also lost Begić, Rizvić in a simmilar way, which is even worse or them considering BiH Croats normaly decide for Croatia (Planinić, Bogdanović, Barać, Markota... just to name a few) and BiH Serbs decide to represent Serbia (Radmanović, Ilić, Danilović, Avdalović)... But the difference by the Croats and Serbs is that the Serbs become players in Serbia. The Croats sistemacly get everything from BIH and some players as Barac and Planinic played in BIH clubs. Barac never played for a croatian club from croatia. In the BIH NT there are no Croats. Serbians and Bosjnaks are playing.

GER - Herber Out For Germany, Rouven Roessler Called In
HAGEN (FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men) – Johannes Herber will not be able to help Germany in their bid to reach the Beijing Games because he has yet to return to full fitness following a knee operation.
Herber went under the knife after tearing a knee ligament in practice with Alba Berlin last October.
His absence will be a big blow for the Germans as they attempt to claim one of three spots for Beijing at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Athens.
Germany coach Dirk Bauermann said: "It's a shame for us because Joe has been a very important part of the national team the last two years.
“We wish him a prompt and complete recovery."
Herber averaged 5.0 points and 1.7 rebounds - including scoring 15 and grabbing six boards against Italy to help Germany reach the quarter-finals.
Rouven Roessler of Giessen has been called in to the preliminary squad.
Germany are in Group B of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament with New Zealand and Cape Verde.

Good player on small BBL teams. Actually the best German scorer in the BBL. Now he makes the preliminary roster, everybody's happy, but he was allowed to put up a lot shots on his last team and will have big big problems adjusting to Bauermanns style imo. Not a candidate for the 12-man-roster.Comment

GER – Demirel blow for Germany
HAGEN (FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men) - Germany’s bid to reach the Beijing Games became a little more complicated on Friday when guard Mithat Demirel withdrew from the squad for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament because of an eye injury.
Demirel got hurt in an April 6 game against Göttingen and has not fully recovered, forcing him to pull out of the training camp in Mallorca – the site of Germany’s first training camp.
Germany coach Dirk Bauermann had earlier lost Johannes Herber because he is still not fully recovered from the serious knee injury he went down with in October.
Herber’s Alba Berlin teammate, center Patrick Femerling, has been given an extra week off since Alba played deep into the campaign and won the German BBL play-off finals.
Germany will take on Cape Verde and New Zealand in Group B of next month’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Athens.Comment

GER – Bauermann, Germany working hard ahead of Athens
MALLORCA (FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men) – Germany coach Dirk Bauermann remains optimistic about his team’s chances of reaching the Beijing Games despite the loss of Johannes Herber and Mithat Demirel.
Herber had a knee operation back in October and is still working his way back to full fitness, while Demirel suffered an eye injury in April that has knocked him out of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
In Mallorca, where the national side is training, Bauermann said: “The players are highly motivated, 100% ready to go with the big goal of the Olympics in view.”
Bauermann is weighing up which newcomers to the set-up might be able to help the team at the qualifying event in Athens.
The youngsters know they are under scrutiny.
“Naturally, you can sense a certain nervousness, but that is normal,” said Bauermann.
One player who isn’t nervous is Jan Hendrik Jagla, who is coming off an excellent season at ULEB Cup and Copa del Rey champions DKV Joventut.
Jagla, a member of last year’s EuroBasket squad, attended a free agent camp with the Toronto Raptors at the Air Canada Centre from June 20-22 before linking up with the national team in Spain.
Bauermann believes the experience in Canada was good for his player.
“He’s made a very good impression and shown a lot of self confidence,” Bauermann said.
Germany are in Group B of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament with Cape Verde and New Zealand.

GER – Injury bug continues to dog Germans
MALLORCA (FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men) – Germany coach Dirk Bauermann isn’t looking at a rosy picture with his national team just over a couple of weeks away from playing in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Injuries first forced the withdrawals of Johannes Herber and Mithat Demirel, and now newcomer Yassin Idbihi has been forced to leave the Mallorca training camp because of a foot problem.
The Koln 99ers ace is to undergo an MRI but will not play in Athens.
Meanwhile, 32-year-old veteran forward Ademola Okulaja is being slowed by a back problem.
He is getting the injury checked out by doctors in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he played college basketball for the Tar Heels.
Okulaja will not play in the friendlies against Poland on Saturday or Monday.
Center Patrick Femerling is set to rejoin the team after being given an extended break after leading Alba Berlin to the German title.
Germany will play in Group B of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Athens against Cape Verde and New Zealand.
Their first game is against the Cape Verdeans on July 15.Comment

Nice to see all the new faces and new jerseys for german NT. Feels kind of "fresh".
The Eurobasket 07 team members Herber, Arigbabu, Okulaja, Demirel will miss the Olympic Qualifiers+Olympics either because of injuries or because they were not nominated. Femerling is still on holidays as the season ended just two weeks ago.
