so I assume last year's Philippine Cup served as the PBA's qualification to the tourney, hay they need to stop placing that tournament high in the pedestal. Though the Governor's cup champion, BGSM wouldn't be competitive in this tournament as well since Cstan and Pringle will are FIBA ineligibles.

Much better give it to the 3rd placer of All Pinoy cup... If somehow TNT and SMB qualifies to EASL then they have a loaded schedule... And Commissioners cup will start on September 21, so it's hard for them to prioritize the tournament...

Maybe it's better to field the Magnolia squad there if they can't qualify in EASL.. since most of their core are FIBA eligibles... Abueva, Jalalon, Barroca, Sanggalang, Corpuz, Lee, Dionisio are all eligibles... then add two quality imports then they are all set... only ineligible players are Ahamnisi, Wong and Reavis (not sure on Dela Rosa)... SMB can't parade Ross, Tautuaa and J. Cruz there...

That’s why I feel the EASL will overtake the Champion’s Cup in popularity. Club team competitions shouldn’t be as strict as those between nations.

Pre-pandemic, this FIBA sanctioned inter-club tournament was more popular than any other , because champion clubs from West Asia treat this very seriously. I cant recall CBA ever sent their champion team and if so, they seldom beat team from Iran, Qatar or Lebanon. Bleague had a breakthrough last 2019, but pandemic put a stop on that.

This tournament will only be significant if West Asia sends their best teams again.

Lebanon always sends their best teams.
However, financialy collapse of the country means level of foreigners being played is not the same.
also for ex. arakji wont be available, because he gets more money playing overseas.

Why cancelled? No confirmed participation by other teams? Maybe FIBA champions cup should merge with EASL....

    Exclamation

For the last 20 years or so, East Asian teams have shown minimal interest in the FIBA Asia Champions maybe except for the Philippines and to some extent South Korea. Ever since La Sagesse of Lebanon won two in a row in 1999 and 2000, the tournament has been dominated by West Asian teams.
