There's a significant difference between hyping a Japan team with Hachimura & Watanabe in tow & hyping a Japan team without those 2 NBA guys. I think most (if not all) Pinoy posters here have high regard for Japanese basketball mainly becoz of Hachimura & Watanabe.

There's also some justified reason to hype Japan even without those 2 NBA players. Remember that in 2015 FIBA Asia Championship, Japan overachieved as it placed a strong 4th in the tournament despite playing an all local line-up (no naturalized player). Gilas (with Blatche) in fact was pushed to the limits by Japan in the 2 games that they played in that tournament

The current Japan team is significantly weaker than the Japan team in 2015.

Sorry this is the wrong thread, I think everybody recognizes their big 3. Even without them they still get hyped around here and whenever somebody points it out they say it’s their future/younger players. And apparently their U19 lost to Korea, and yes I know it’s only 3 points. But with all the hype I’ve seen you’d think they would’ve dominated but Korea isn’t even given as much credit around here. I’m seeing this common pattern to look for the model country and put our own down at times but what’s worse is the countries they hype aren’t even living up to their hype. This is not just the filipino in me talking but I think if there were qualifiers PH would’ve done better than Korea or Japan. Also sorry I’m not aware of the events 6 years ago, this is mostly what I’m seeing (now), of course I look forward to Japan’s bright future whenever that is.

Probably not. A lot of Jordan's main guys are not joining. That is probably why their odds are so low.
