This is my ultimate basketball league if given a chance to found one:
Format:
a. Home-and-away
b. 4 round regular season. Total number of games for each teams will depend on the number of teams in the league (e.g. 8 teams = 28 regular season games for one team; 10 teams = 36 regular season games).
c. Back-to-back games for the same teams that played the last game (i.e. Manila vs. Cebu match will be played in saturday and sunday).
d. 7-7-7 playoff format (if only 8 teams - 7-7 format).
Players:
a. 4 heritage players (Fil-Fors ineligible to play for Gilas as locals)
b. 1 World import of unlimited height
c. 1 Naturalized player/resident foreigner of unlimited height
d. 1 Asia-Pacific import of unlimited height
e. No annual drafts, just sign players the team preferred subject to the salary cap.
f. There will be a transfer window in the middle of the season which is a period to allow teams to release or sign players from another team or another league or from the free agency. The players are also allowed to transfer provided that the team where such a player will tranfer shall bear the remainder of the previous contract of player and the team where such player originated.
Notes:
1. If a team hires an Asia-Pac import and a Naturalized/Resident foreigner, it will only be allowed to field 2 heritage players.
2. No restrictions as to the playing time of Asia-Pac, Naturalized/RF, World imports and Heritage players.
Teams:
a. City/Province/Region-based backed by big company sponsors and basketball clubs/communities.
b. In case of expansion, the league will look on the viability of the prospective team's chosen place taking into consideration the population size, economy as well as the interest of the people with the sport.
c. An expansion team can no longer pick a place that has already an existing team.
d. If the league rules that the place is not viable to have a team, the league shall encourage such expansion team represent "bigger" place (e.g. instead of Caloocan, the team is encourage to represent the whole CAMANAVA area).
e. If a team decides to withdraw, he should sell the team and the buying-successor team shall carry over the seller-predecessor team's record, history and achievements.
Marketing:
a. Teams have full discretion on how they will market their teams.
b. However, the league will oversee the finances of teams.
c. Further, teams are required to have livestream their games in Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.
Execution:
Inaugural season and 2nd season:
- 8 teams, preferably places with close geographical proximity (e.g. Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga and CAMANAVA).
- Heritage players, Naturalized players/Resident foreigners are allowed
- Strengthen teams' presence within their respective areas.
3rd season:
- Should the first two seasons becomes successful, expansion can now be explored.
- World imports allowed
5th season:
- Further expansion, if feasible
- Asian imports allowed
I'll call this league Philippine Basketball Super League. Hahaha
