So, Adelaide is a mid tier team.

having 13-23 win loss record for coach henry is really bad. (If it is true that the level of the team last and this season are close to same)

One thing I notice about NBL is that the teams roster are signficantly different every season. Unlike in pba where key players stay( like Junmar with SMB or Castro in TNT)

I see, so it is sydney, nz, hawks and perth.

      On moves and roster development

Returning: Isaac Humphries, Daniel Johnson, Sunday Dech

New: Mitch McCarron, Dusty Hannahs*, Todd Withers*, Mojave King (NS), Kai Sotto (SRP), Tad Dufelmeier Jr, Emmanuel Malou

Need: A new coach and some more depth in the front-court.

      Depth Chart:

      PG: McCarron | Dufelmeier Jr

      SG: Hannahs* | King (NS)

      SF: Withers* | Dech

      PF: Johnson | Malou

      C: Humphries | Sotto (SRP)

      Notes:

Suddenly the 36ers need a new head coach.

Long-time NBL assistant Jamie Pearlman, who was on Conner Henry’s staff last season, has to be considered.

As does John Rillie. The former NBL star (and 36ers championship player) has spent ten years as an assistant in the States, recently worked with the Boomers and was one of the final candidates for the Perth job (along with American Will Voigt and Tassie AC Jacob Chance).

To be clear: it won’t be Brett Brown.

Sotto is an exciting prospect… but this squad needs another solid big. Maybe two.

That said, there’s nice versatility on the wings. Dech and King can both play the two and the three while Withers should be able to defend the two, three and maybe also the four.

      Dufelmeier Jr was a savvy pick-up. He’s definitely ready to be a full-time back-up.

It’s go time for Mojave King.

Besson is already in Auckland, but can't be officially signed
He has already agreed to multi year deal based on reports, but signing cannot be made official, until approval of League . It's going to be tough for the Breakers to get an exception, and have 2 next star level players playing together.

His contract as reported does not look like a typical import signing but more like a next star multi year signing

I think Besson may be assigned to Phoenix, Cairns or Brisbane as a next star 1 player per team rule

ALL NBL PLAYERS ARE ASSESSED and are assigned a "monetary value" to regulate

Each of those eleven fully-contracted players is given a player value by an independent Contract Review Committee. It is that value – said by the league to be “an independent measure of each player’s market value”

Additionally, if a player is being paid more than the amount the Contract Review Committee determines it is his ‘Player Value’, not what he is paid that is used as the basis of regulating competitive balance

What you can’t do though, is receive an unfair advantage by, for example, having someone like Bogut come in and play for a declared “minimum salary”
The independent assessment of “market value “, ensure the competitiveness of the competition. Okay, so each player has is “ASSESSED and is assigned their monetary ‘value

The Breakers problem signing Besson as an Import

The Five Player Salary Maximum Rule

One rule the system has to ensure there is an element of talent spread across the league is the Five Player Salary Maximum rule.

This rule is designed to stop a club from simply signing all the best players – having a bench full of talent who would be starters on other rosters – and essentially buying a championship.

The rule states that the five lowest-paid players (Development players don't count) on each roster cannot have a combined player value of more than 40% of the Salary Floor.

In other words, every team needs to have some cheaper players on their roster to balance out the higher-priced talent.

With this season’s floor set at $1.287 million, the combined value of each team’s bottom five players cannot exceed $514,800.

So let's look at the NZ Breakers roster as an example why this is a barrier to signing another import :
              Top 5 players -
              Silva import
2nd import ( being proposed Besson)
Marquee player 1 : Tai Webster
              Marguee player 2; Delaney
(note can only have max 4 players/ import /marquee
they signed Wetzell as starter from Pheonix to for their top 5

Now bottom five ( must not be more than $ 514 K
              Abercombrie - his "monetary value " is easily $ 150 K
              Loe - his value as a starter is easily $ 150 K
              White - easily $ 100 k at least
              Galloway at least $ 70K
              Bach at least $ 70 K
So total is over $ 540 K (exceeds maximum salary rule of $ 514 )

Note the monetary value isn't what they are actually paid, but based on the previous post assessed " Monetary value" .

I hope people now understand the rationale behind the rules, and why it's not something that just do a work around like in the Philippines, there are reasons for these rules.. and it's one reason why the PBA is now a circus with no regulation , and the rich making a mockery of competitive balance.

The NBL best place to be in to make the NBA
                    interesting take from landale.

so far, there are 6 pathways in for a prospect( each prospect is unique in terms of classification and fit) before entering nba draft:

                    1. US NCAA
                    2. EUROPEAN LEAGUES
                    3. NBL
                    4. G LEAGUE IGNITE
                    5. OVERTIME ELITE
                    6. OTHER PRO LEAGUES ( UNLIKELY) (FOR INT PLAYERS)

SO, LANDALE EXPERIENCED 1,2, AND 3. AND HE DECLARE THAT NBL IS THE BEST PATH.

So far, US NCAA still have the most players being drafted. But the other pathways and programs are relatively new. And slowly but surely, taking away prospects from goint to college.

Do not forget the marquee international competitions like FIBA WC and the Olympics. The Argentines (Campazzo, Deck) and Landale have actually secured NBA contracts by virtue of their outstanding performances at these stages. Yes, they might be doing good in their respective leagues prior, but these tournaments were actually the dealmakers for them.
Never look too far ahead. You might stumble on a block right in front of you.

Malou who plays PF. is the 3rd best big of the 36ers.
Johnson does get PT at center

While their new marquee sign up guard from the Melbourne Champs as a starter is their biggest upgrade, not King who was a bench player of the last placed team

Tell that to Serbia and Domrep. You could also tell Korea and Indo about that.lol Kai faced two of upper tier bigs in Ratliffe and Boban. Araujo and Prosper could easily be NBL allstars. I dont think Malou could stand a chance or be decent against those four. Giddey is worth both McCarron and Mojave combine.haha

Kai could easily be averaging at least 15 or 20 if he was recipient of good passes. Kai was scoring mostly on his own effort. Malou was playing against a lower league and not even main league level.lol Kai was playing top tier NT level players and top tier world bigs.haha

I am not even impress with Humphries and Johnson. Kai went toe to toe with the world's best and was a fixture as a great big in youth world tournaments. Sam Froling who was clearly inferior now to Kai is a projected Starter and Petrusev could be an NBL allstar. As always your disrespect and envy will cloud your judgement. Too easy to debunk and counter but I still respect the seniority of DJ and IH. But to doubt Kai's abilities over those two?haha Kai shutdown Korea's offense and he was the biggest thorn when Korea played Gilas. Korea NT who beat NZ NT.lol DJ is a very poor defender while Kai is proven in the world stage. Was even very effective against Boban.lol
