Lekavicius showed why he's EL guard and Rytas guards are not. Ulanovas showed why he's EL forward and Rytas' forwards are not.

So much of Kariniauskas being floor general and NT material...(yeah, it's just one game and I don't mind him in the NT as third PG if Kalnietis is out, but the hype around him last season was too big).
LTU NT will snatch Eurobasket 2029 title with this roster:

    Jokubaitis, Marciulionis, Laurencikas
    Indrusaitis, Brazdeikis, Rubstavicius
    Buzelis, Lelevicius
    Murauskas, Sirvydis
    Tubelis, Krivas

Rytas was outcoached by Zalgiris and looked less prepared for the game having more time for that (more important game in Europe is ahead though). An average big Cavanaugh was made the best player of the first half of the game by playing against small forwards in the post. The best big in the both teams Buva was really used only in the end. Attacking Lukosiunas was one of the rare smart moves by Rytas. Zalgiris had more of them and was better prepared for the game, but still could give the won game away.

When every weak you get your ass kick in euroleague team can learn thing or two especially from physicality standpoint.

Rytas only 2 players played well Buva and Butkevicius others didnt. Especially Radzevicius was very dissapointing as ale Rytas leader .

Lukas and Ulanovas showed their real level.

Obviuosly Ndour injury was game changer for Rytas game plan. When 2m07 Cavanaugh was guarded by 1m97 Butkevicius in post because there were no other choice .

and the end of the day Zalgiris is way more talented team, but still all those lkl wins only by 2-7 pts looks very meh...

ps. after watching Zalgiris -Rytas and click on Barsa-Real is tottaly diffrent planet from every imaginable basketball element.

What stood out the most for me is Kalnietis inability to drive past Buva in those several occasions. Thats sad, I don't believe Kalnietis should be in NT anymore. Maybe the same Kariniauskas would provide more at this point.

To be fair with Kalnietis, Zalgiris' schedule has been extreme lately. For us it's easy to sit back and watch players play, but for vets schedule is absolutely key. Kalnietis has been playing too much all season long, that is not what was intended when the deal was signed. Prior Rytas game he was playing almost 24min against Fener, 5th in minutes among Zal players...

IMO, Kalnietis is still superior to Kariniauskas when we speak about third PG role, some 5-10 minutes, sometimes maybe not even stepping on the court in some games. Still superior decision maker, p'n'r executor and so on. After a good rest I would still prioritize him, but overall it's not so important question anymore.

Heading back to the game, after a long time we can see that Vilnius has basketball fans...It's easy to see that wins bring back people to arena. Ziemelis knows what to do if he wants to make money from tickets I guess...

Could be, could be. But speaking of hype, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

It comes from a guy who sincerely believes that watching stats is more objective way to observe basketball than actually watching basketball, right?

May I remind you that the outcome of every game is determined by the scoring total from the stat sheet? Just the total. Not how the players actually looked out there on the floor over-and-above the buckets they tallied. Winning ugly still gets the W in the standings.

Studying the stats therefore provides a far more objective guide to which player(s) contributed the most to the W than does any subjective observation. After all, at the end of the day players are asked only "How many?" and not "How?"

My study the numbers and check them twice approach is nonetheless a quantum leap more reliable than your subjective assessments of form/style divorced from in-game performance.

As a result I usually cheer for the smaller market teams against Žalgiris, Rytas and Neptūnas. The foreigner quotient is of course much reduced in Rytas and especially Neptūnas this year but that could be a temporary phenomenon.

I was drawn to Nevėžis in the past because I liked both the gaudy green and orange uniforms and the team name ("No Crabs" - and yes I know it's a river running through Kėdainiai) but Nevėžis has now gone away from those team colours and multiple sponsorship changes resulting in team name modifications have soured me on the team.

I've now settled on Lietkabelis as my home team because my mother was born in Panevėžys. Moreover Lietkabelis was established way back in 1964 and thus has a time-honoured history that's the third longest of the teams in the LKL. Finally the team name of "Raindrop" is very cool.

I've also settled on Alytaus Dzūkija as my second "home" team. Quite simply my family's origins are in Dzūkija. My grandfather moved the family homestead from Ūdrija near Alytus to Lauckaimis near Kudirkos Naumiestis shortly before my father was born. Secondly the club has a relatively untarnished history of sponsorship changes resulting in name modifications. Finally the lynx logo is wild cool. The lynx logo should though be incorporated onto the uniform somehow.

I also like Pasvalio Pieno Žvaigždės a lot. First of all Pasvalys is only the 40th largest municipality in Lithuania with less than 8300 people yet has the 5th best basketball team in Lithuania. Secondly the team has always had eye catching uniforms with the current double-blue striped edition being both imaginative and pleasing to the eye:

Finally a team named "Milk Stars" is beyond cool! And yes I know it's named after a Lithuanian dairy conglomerate based in Pasvalys but I'm a dairy enthusiast. I worked at the Silverwood's ice cream plant for part of the summer in 1972. I now have a small collection of milk bottles that dairies in my general area used from the 1930's to the 1970's which I keep displayed in a kitchen pantry:

Finally Juventus has captured my attention this year for the first time. Previously I was always put off by the fact that I associated the team's name with an Italian soccer club. But the club's success in putting together a medal contending LKL team from Lithuanian players that the big budget teams didn't want has captured my fancy. The presence of five players contending for a spot on this spring's Lithuanian 3x3 team on the Juventus roster hasn't hurt either. I'd really like to see Juventus do well in the LKL playoffs.
With some of the changes that have occurred in the LKL since the end of the 2020-21 season, the pecking order of the teams for which I find myself cheering has changed a bit. It now stands thus:

                        1. Panevėžio Lietkabelis

Still has to be considered my home team.

                        2. Alytaus Dzūkija

                        My alternate home team.

                        3. Klaipėdos Neptūnas

With an all-Lithuanian lineup and a couple of Team Lietuva back-ups in Deividas Gailius and Žygimantas Janavičius who've always answered the call when needed, Neptūnas has moved up strongly in my pecking order.

                        4. Pasvalio Pieno Žvaigždės

Still very cool. Pity they got off to such a dreadful start this year.

                        5. Vilniaus Rytas

With six past or potential Team Lietuva players in the lineup, Rytas still deserves my support.

                        6. Kauno Žalgiris

With six past or potential Team Lietuva players in the lineup, Žalgiris deserves mention despite the presence of so many high paid foreigners.

With the addition of Uniclub Casino to the team name, Juventus has dropped way down in my personal popularity rankings. I hate corporate sponsors as part of team names and betting services are perhaps the ones I hate the most. Pity since Juventus has a whopping six players who have represented Lietuva in various competitions over the last dozen years.

Dovydas Giedraitis! What a debut of LKL playoffs for 21yo. Efficient scoring, assists, heck of job on a beast Miller defensively. Lietkabelis -2, last seconds of the game, he takes the ball into ISO action, cross overs his opponent, earns FTs and makes both cold blooded. Overtime. Another clutch bucket and clutch assist in the last second. Dude was doing everything. Impressive.

Nedad Canak sucked in this game though. Too many lousy possessions for Lietkabelis. Giedraitis was left alone to fight with Miller, which he did nicely, but others sucked. It nearly cost Lietkabelis the game.

IDK if 2000 generation guards R.Jokubaitis and D. Giedraitis will make the best guard duet in Europe in the future, but it will definitely be one of the smartest and fundamentally sound duets for sure. I can only wish Dovydas health. He has everything else to play smart high level basketball.

I also see that Žygimantas Janavičius had a whopping eleven assists and a PER of 20 in 28:39 of playing time against big budget Žalgiris.

So Mindaugas Lukauskis who will be turning 43 in two weeks time has lit up Rytas for 29 points over 68:40 minutes of play over two games with an average EFF of 18. And Rytas thought he was washed up four years ago!
