I guess we should change the title thread to the 2022 Asia cup
Lesson , in these times, never ever be sure of anything, like you know for certainty this and that will happen.
Whether that be a tournament will be held or even if a player will be eligible, you simply do not know for sure. No one does with full certainty.

We have to realize that by late September, FIBA or international basketball season would be over as the pro leagues all over the world would start their respective season. Hence, almost all (if not all) the national teams all over the world would be breaking camps. Sino pa makaka tune up ng Gilas?

    Who else but PBA teams
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

And logistic wise, It will be a big cost for SBP to go overseas camp, lalo na heightened restrictions most of the countries due to Pandemic.. Maybe in Early June next year yan ang pwede and they can go pocket tournaments since tambak lahat ng events for Asian basketball and Eurobasket & Americup will be held also in 2022.. Hope that covid will be lessen next year..

OT: We’re not even sure if next year would be covid-free for most of the countries. Reason being is that different countries have different covid safety standards. 136 cases in sydney nsw is national emergency already (in Australian context), panu ba sa ibang countries? And we’re still in lockdown here in melb.

The next move for the team is probably more bubbles and expanding the pool, they will also possibly join pocket tournaments of Africans for the Afrobasket if there are any and maybe a few tune-ups with the third round Asian teams. I think PBA games at this point is basically a guarantee but I am not sure if they will join the 2nd conference or have 6-7 games only. Would be nice if they can also play Belgium, Finland, and Hungary like Japan did. Interesting to see what the SBP will do in the next 13 weeks until November.

No choice but to play in PBA for training and conditioning. But it must not be an exhibition game, but they should be included in the standing and PBA championship.

this will mess up the 2024 Olympics since the WC is the qualifier , they should just push everything back by 1-2 years just to synchronize the calendars

Good thing here is 3 countries will host.. if one of those countries (Indonesia, Japan and Philippines) within state of emergency due to lockdown then they can change the venue to another host.. napaganda pa nga eh.. rather than only 1 country...

If there are no spectators then it does not matter , what matters more in the facility is a bubble and the entry travel.

Additionally it's not the whole country situation that determines the situation, but the specific city and if borders can be imposed . Example an island ..

First Bahraini basketball player (and might first ever Gulf region based player) Muzamil Hamoda will join US NCAA Div.1 school this coming 2021-2022 season.. He will play for Utah State.. This Golden boy from Bahrain will be the future superstar of their country..

after a total of 12 official games (qualifiers, OQT, jordan cup), these are my final 12 for d asia cup if it was not rescheduled.

    1. kouame
    2. chiu
    3. go
    4. tamayo
    5. baltazar
    6. navarro
    7. ramos
    8. ravena
    9. suerte
    10. heading
    11. belangel
    12. abarrientos

tab would most likely pick matt nieto and dave ildefonso over rj and rey.

With that line up, I see this team will end up 7th to 8th place.. We're damn lucky that the tournament was postponed...

For exposure sake for further preparation ( which is really the only value of the Asia cup , especially for Gilas), it is indeed better that it is held next July 2022, one year before the 2023 World cup. hopefully the players for 2023, will be filtered down more by 2022 July, to actually prepare more players who will actually play in 2023

I just thinking if FIBA Asia cup was not postponed, Kai might play here.. The decision Kai made before the announcement is that SBP and Kai's camp knows already that the tournament will be postponed.. Thus, Kai and his camp announced that they will not play...
