The draft rules via the CBA are clear unless there is an exception or different than common interpretation, all players who sign a pro contract with a US based team, are automatically made available to be selected by NBA teams in this year's draft. Of course no team can force an individual to play or sign a contract, but it is the right of NBA teams to draft all players made available even without their consent. If an NBA team wants to draft Kobe Paras (assuming he's 22 yrs old already) it is totally under their right , even if Kobe Paras does not want to enter or consents to enter the draft. Kobe Paras essentially was NBA undrafted in 2018 ( his 22 yrs birthday) , even if he did not enter the draft publicly or officially..

The best thing really these days is to wait for the official statement. It would be a very dumb move for EWP and Kai's family if they would not honor their Ignite commitment. It is like burning bridges to his future organization. He has his agents and they would for sure negotiate a best scenario for him. As reiterated and recently written article this gilas stint was really part of his agreement with Ignite.

EWP clients it seems were Javale Mcgee, Jordan Clarkson and others. These were the once always posted on their social media accounts. The Cancelled Gilas exhibition isn't extraordinary. A lot of events are cancelled worldwide every year. The biggest issue would be if they were SUED or if there was fraud. They for sure just tried to bypass insurance because in business sense that would lower the cost of the event and would entail bigger profit. NBA STARS play exhibitions games frequently during offseason for example the DREW LEAGUE and I dont think that league secure insurances for those events. See magisip ng maayos di puro SPECULATION and MUDSLINGING.

            https://www.spin.ph/basketball/fiba/...a2437-20210121

East West Private (EWP), which handles Sotto's career, told Spin.ph that the 18-year-old wunderkind secured a clearance from the league to suit up for the national team which would run side-by-side with the developmental league's bubble in Orlando.

"The G League approved for him to play for the national team and asked him to immediately rejoin [Ignite] after the last game [of Gilas]," said EWP CEO Maria Espaldon.

We should learn as always to wait for official statements same as before. Puro speculations same as when he didnt announce his Ignite route. A lot were saying he is a bust, interest from NCAA not real, Europe route better, ETC.

Video of Kai reiterating his Gilas commitment.

The reason why you find it "stupid" is you're thinking in a different paradigm. Quite simple unlike other leagues in the world that require a "positive action" to enter the draft. The NBA does not require " a positive action" to enter the draft for those who are automatically eligible. You in fact like the rest of us who are based outside of the US prior the draft year we turned 22 yrs old, actually entered the draft to be made available even if we didn't know it and went undrafted.

Kobe Paras went undrafted in 2018, even if he didn't enter or knew he was available to be drafted.

Essentially Kai's positive action to reclassify early entry into the draft was when he signed an agreement with a US based team (Ignite) . as per CBA rules those who sign with a US based pro team are automatically made available for NBA teams to draft you in the year you turn 19 yrs old.

Bottom line is this , in summary:

Unless there is a different interpretation and application of the CBA rules,

if Kai wanted to enter the draft later (2022 onwards) , he had to either :

Enter a US college and stay as an under classman
                or
Join a non- US based team (either amateur/ school or Pro)

Once he signed a contract with a US based pro team he essentially re- classified and entered the draft on the year of his 19th birthday. ( period- unless the CBA rules are interpreted differently )

No need for personal atttacks on both sides.

Anyway, Where is Kai???? Well who knows. Sayson and Badua sources is not named.

Ewp, ervin, and Kai should have a plan already.

But what it is, is the question.

Based on this, I only think 2 possible things.

                  1. They may have already teams interested in Kai, who promised that they will draft him (based on marketability, potential, or whatever)

                  2. They will totally skip this 2021 nba draft. And increase his stock for 2022 Nba Draft against the likes of Chet
Can I also appeal to our fellow forumers to be civil to one another? Avoid using foul language. Respond constructively to criticisms. Respect each other's arguments and viewpoints.

If not our american/foreign friends who runs the site may lock this thread. Or worse troll the PH subforum.

Let us interact sensibly this time around.

Thanks and have a nice day.

I find this a better alternative as there are a surplus of pro leagues around the globe. For me, if he plays in the B.League as an Asian import, that would be fine since he will have an opportunity to face up against experience and skilled big imports. There are also lots of G-League caliber wings playing there. B. League guards, though not the athletic type, will force Kai to work on his perimeter and PNR defense. B.League may not be in the level of G-League but will surely give Kai a real 5-on-5 competitive environment.

Australia NBL could also be a good destination but is there really an Asian import quota there? What are the status of Yudai Baba, Makoto Hiejima and Vishesh Bhriguvanshi there?

CAA Sports has signed NBA G League Ignite combo guard Jalen Green, one of the most anticipated NBA draft prospects in years, for representation in all areas.
