Interesting but I think SBP has a case here. If they don't do this they'll have issues with the PBA over lending draftees to the national team.

To be honest, with what's happening now, I think more players will turn down the invitation of joining the Gilas Draft in the PBA.

It's probably the other way around, they applied to get drafted into PBA then SBP invited them to join the national team as drafted loanees. Especially with the college graduates they don't have a choice before because skipping the PBA draft 2 years will get them banned.

SBP writes FIBA and the Chinese-Taipei Federation as Heading apparently has a live contact at Gilas

Live contract with the national team? The NT is not even a professional basketball team.

Taiwan also playing in qualifiers, so for sure stop din liga nila while FIBAWCQ will be held that time... PBA lang naman ang ayaw mag stop pag may qualifiers eh...

i think its a concession between SBP and the PBA. SBP wants a standing NT that can play in a moment's notice while the players are being members of PBA Teams via the Gilas Draft. SBP is paying Nieto, Go etc to play as pros in the PBA.

Heading may be in line to be in the next Gilas Draft. He cant be a full time NT player of he is in Taiwan.

As much as I love to see local players going abroad, playing for the National Team is much more important than any club competition. Hope they kept that in mind.

In fairness to the PBA, the league took about a 2-week break to give way to every window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers. Ganoon din ginawa ng Japan's B-league & South Korea's KBL. Yung problema lang talaga in this pandemic period is that our Pinoy Gilas players playing in the B-league like Dwight Ramos, Thirdy, Kobe Paras, would be subjected to quarantine before they can join Gilas training, hence yung brief break ng B-league (probably 2 weeks) won't be enough.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

In my opinion, what SBP is doing is unconsciously or maybe consciously shielding PBA from obliging itself (PBA) from lending players that ACTUALLY PLAYING in the league through Gilas Draft. Without that special draft, it is the PBA that will be forced to lend its players to the NT.

For me, this is just the SBP saving face because of the deal with PBA and the Gilas special draft. The Gilas draft is really just the PBA making appearances that they they are "lending"/supplying players to the national team. The new draftees are actually paid salary (or allowance?) by SBP (and thus MVP camp), and not anymore by the PBA teams that drafted them (like in 2016 Gilas draft Mac Belo/Carl Bryan Cruz batch), right?

Also, hopefully, Jordan Heading did his legal homework, like Kiefer Ravena, and there is an 'escape' scenario. Also, for me it's good that Heading has no cultural shackles like 'utang na loob', that he won't try to explore the best possible situation for himself. Heading is the only player from the Gilas draftees who did not play in PH college UAAP/NCAA, and at the same time he is already a professional who played in ABL.

If he is still part of the Gilas pool after this brouhaha is the only negative aspect of this story.

Then, star players might actually reconsider joining PBA Draft then. Overseas opportunities for Pinoy players are starting to open left and right. Let's be honest, the max salary of PBA which is 420k/month is just peanuts compared to the entry-level salary in B.League which 490k/month which can go as high as 2.5M/month and to the entry-level in T1 League which is 720k/month for just playing 2 quarters per game.

Asian leagues will most likely enlist Filipinos then Chinese before other East and Southeast Asian countries because of their market and their talent pool.

It's quite annoying, more so the PBA's policy on the likes of Pringle, Cstand, Mikey, Munzon, et. al. Upcoming PBA-eligible players like them should be considered as free agents and should be accepted in the league as direct-hires, not draftees. Same treatment should given to our guys (excluding Kiefer and BRP) in the B. League and Kai, should they decide to enter the PBA in the future.

If PBA are lending unconditionally their players to the national team then we don't have this sh**ty Gilas draft in 1st place.. But greedy board of governors in the league has exact opposite of what we want to see...

I agree with this. No pandemic/quarantine period = no big issue, assuming that T1 will also have international breaks during FIBA qualifying windows.
