Dave might start over Koon though. So 2 of 5? But I get what you mean. They have been recruiting a lot of Filfors, including ineligibles, as of late. I don't know why the flock of homegrowns has become a trickle.
Maybe because they have the hardest academic requirement in the UAAP? They had one of the most bountiful flock of homegrown rookies years before with Perez, Tolentino and others. But all of them dropped out after being red shirted because of academic requirements. I haven't heard of superstars in the other UAAP schools being redshirted because of acads. Ateneo should reconsider the rigidity of their academic standards. I mean the effect is they are reducing the chances of homegrowns receiving "Ateneo" education in academics and basketball. For good basketball players I think it is more important they get into Tab's basketball program than the so-called "Ateneo" academic program. IMO CJ Perez and Arvin would have been much better earlier if they stayed under Tab. Perez would have been a PG coming in to the PBA rather than like 4 years later. Tolentino would have been a decent defender.

Slaughter had a passport and stayed here when he was about 17. Fiba only gave his exemption when he was 30. Same for Newsome.sigpic

Originally posted by mapuakid View PostIMHO, and let’s say if SBP is interested, they should’ve lodged the application as early as possible (the younger the better?) as it could depend on the granting of exemption (my opinion). Main documents like passport “could” be “to follow” as the FIBA is not immigration department. These players can apply passport and wait for the issuance.WE DON'T COUNT YEARS, WE COUNT CENTURIES

I think its safe to say that CJ Perez is the best 2-guard in the PBA right now. His performance with Gilas in the 2019 FIBA World Cup was pretty decent. I think a 6-foot-4 CJ Perez would be a monster in Asian level basketball.
Guys, how did Perez shoot 3's during his college career?"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Ateneo was not like this before. I dont think Tab has a say on acads. A baseless theory of mine is it might be from some of the alumni say the Nieto father. Take note Thirdy was the first player to be red shirted because of acads. Wasnt Mike Nieto a beneficiary because he had more PT without Thirdy?
