Balti actually guarded Ratliff in the first half of every game.

Yes but he also plays SF when we have any combination of Kouame, Kai, Go or Chiu on the floor. Same with Carl. In the OQT we will probably see this more. So against bigger teams Balti will probably be an SF. Even as a 4, if he still drives, shoots from the outside and guards the perimeter, that is an SF skillset.

I hope the team uses the china tuneup games wisely. With no reliable streak shooters, the pinoy team can win only by defense and freeing up tactics for open shots in the oqt. I don't see rj and sj doing a number of tiny bubbles tricks against battle-tested 6'4-6'7 serbian guards. Dominican republic has 6'1-6'7 guards.

Tab shouldn't bother with scores, that should be reset every 10 minutes. Per quarter, tab should test different offensive and defensive plays and crew.

If we're gonna build a defensive identity, might as well practice it. I agree that we will only win if we defend well. Hopefully, it proves useful in the OQT.

Is this new iteration of Gilas looking up to be Asia's answer to the 2004 Detroit Pistons? No superstars but still won a championship with their defense.

Balti is one player that can change position as needed, versatile player indeed, even by next year when he plays in the Asian Games he will be much improved and by 2023,I'll see him as competitive in the world stage.

RJ offensive skillset is already pba superstar potential (you can look at it as positive or negative as jio jalalon possesses the same potential at much older age), Dwight Ramos trajectory is a Matthew Wright lite offense with Jared Dillinger like defense/toughness, Kai Sotto is the best nba prospect that we had and he's 7 footer..Baltazar was the best 6'8 and above forward (not center/s) local prospect that we have since Japeth Aguilar and we call this team superstar less..

Rajko Toroman will crave for the talent Tab at his disposal..ni hindi nga niya na utilize fully si Slaughter and never got Junmar Fajardo and we having issues on Christian Standhardinger eligibility since he played for German youth team..and all 3 of them are considered to be impactful gilas players na even at the time og gilas 1 (2009-2011)

Then perhaps more like the 2019 Raptors team that shocked the Warriors superteam? Although, KD and Klay were injured so some people kinda put an asterisk to that championship by the Raps.

You like debating , legalistic style to try to make a point. here is the thing if your talking about outcomes and results there is so much verified information consistently out there to arrive with unrefutable conclusions, no need to nit pick 1 event like 2014 for Gilas or 2002 For NZ. Consistently both nations and any nation for that matter play every year , produce players every year, do preparations every year. The consistent records are out there available all to see.. it's not rocket science.

    You cannot sugarcoat consistent failure

Nor can you downplay consistent outcomes , NZ consistently has a 50 % record in world competition. It is a mid tier team consistently at world's.. consistently it is not top tier ..(top 8). Obviously.
The Philippines is consistently.. u know already, no need to spell it out.

For both one of event like 2014 or 2002 does not change the consistency of their level. Note that is results, all of it , not nit picking one.

You're actually wrong , Nz is not declining in placings in the World cup

    2010 WC 12th out of 24 top 50 %
    2014 WC 15 out of 24 top 62 %
    2019 WC 19 out of 32 top 59 %

It consistently over this century, places in top 60 % of WC .
While all of Asia except China has placed always in bottom 32 %.

Resilt are results, consistently. You're confused with new format for 2019.

not into debating for simply the sake of it, technically their placings in the last 5 WC have been consistent ( the top 4 is the outlier) top 50 to 60 % in WC. If you want to base it on which round they got eliminated , then so be it , the 2019 is the outliner, 1st in 5 WC, but technically in the new format , it is not the bottom classfication round of 24 to 32 places) , technically those teams in 24 to 32 ( all the Asian teams) got eliminated earlier even before the end of their preliminary round. It is what it is ... No one has ever claimed that NZ is a top tier (top 8 team) despite it's one off top 4 finish. it is a mid tier (top 50 to 60 %) for the world cup (consistently ) that's the complete all of record results evaluated , not one of events. Overall records are still what one goes buy and in context..

Your line of argument is flawed, it's called association fallacy , just because an event happened it does not mean it is true for all.. or always true.

Still with all D1 and talents they have why cant they reach the quarterfinals.

24 to 32 statement is a lie. China and NZ have the same record in First round. So NZ should have been eliminated even in the old format or China should have advance the same with New Zealand

So why haven't New Zealand reach quarterfinals since 2004.

So what did Philippines had that Japan or Korea didn't have for you to say that the main reason is element of surprise.

Unlike Gilas, whom aside from Blatche, the whole team was virtually unknown to the world basketball community, Japan has more known personalities when they played in the world cup. Guys like Hachimura, Watanabe, Baba, Hiejima, Fazekas and even their coach Lamas are known internationally because of their previous stints overseas. Korea, on the other hand, since I already watched them playing since their OQT stint in 2012, even if they are virtually unknown, their playing style is greatly countered by western country due better system and, obviously, height and heft.

huh your trolling.. many teams with NBA talent don't make the quarterfinals. there is no shame with not making the quarters

You're lieing, bottom 8 , 24 to 32 is a real classification group. it was determined 1st by win loss record, then quotient to break ties. FIBA has a criteria of determine placings , it's all in the rules and who is relegated to classfication round 24 to 32 ( all the Asian team) , which NZ was not it was in the 16 to 23 classfication group , this is determined by hard clear rules. you're making thing up.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_F...inal_standings

there was no world cup in 2004. NZ is not a top 8 team in the world despite it's 4th place finish in 2002. no one is claiming that, except you . it is consistently a mid tier placed team , 40 to 60 %) that is accurate and no shame in that.

Whlle Asian teams are consistently a bottom 1/3 rd 33 % team in the world cup , these are based on clear FIBA rules for placings , don't make things up

Nothing , your argument is flawed, the Philippines was simply better in 2014 than japan and Korea has ever been in a WC period, all credit to them , you can throw all these theories out of surprise or whatever., they placed higher and performed better than any Asian team in 2014 plain and simple. all credit to them

give credit where it is due
A line up of an NBA 6' 10 talent as versatile as Blatche and fit is damn good ( one of the best players in the 2014 WC)
    add , Ranidel
a Norwood a final 4 NCAA talent rotation player
    Alapag
    and Castro

and talent is talent , that team was good. call it as it is. no excuses

can that be repeated using the exact same formula and approach for a different time , 2023 and beyond. simple answer is NO.. it does not work that way
