What a turnaround for him. From always gigil to barely trying.. anyway I hope someone like Yeng drafts him. Someone needs to light a fire under his @ss. Otherwise he'll be contented with just signing contracts and giving the bare minimum. I don't see him dominating the PBA with his current mindset to be honest.

          • Can someone make a poll? Best case scenario for Kai.

            Porzingis
            Jokic
            Gobert
            Hadadi
            Zhou Qi
            A taller Japeth

            • Weakside dunker spot is where Kai should spend his time and High post screen and passer.
That's where he will most effectively help 36ers

One thing for sure is Kai's strength isn't similar at all to Pozingis or Jokic. Kai is neither a 3 pt shooter a low post scorer or a player you run plays for .
He's a weakside operator on offense and passer from the elbows

Kai's strength with his height and FIBA goal tending rules as well as NBA Iilegsl defense rule is more suited for the FIBA game rather than the NBA

That's close to how Joakim Noah operated on offense. He passed from the high post, was a PnR operator, and a great offensive rebounder. The difference is, Noah could guard more players, and had a better motor, but that's beside the point. A Joakim Noah-type could be a feasible target for Kai.

Kai is better facing the basket, not from the post.

                • Poor man Javal Mcgee but with passing instincts.
At FIBA Asia that's highly effective

McGee's really useful in today's game. Good rebounder, rim protector, and rim runner in limited minutes. Efficient, too. His type's become more and more common throughout the NBA, and even the EuroLeague. More bigs are rim-runners than post operators these days. Bigs can still score as rim-runners, rollers, given enough space.

I only hope your comparison's not taken as a slight.

If only more of our less talented local bigmen could be trained as rim runners and are given more passes off the pick and roll.

                      • Exactly it's no knock on Kai to be a rim runner with passing from the elbows.

This is where he can help his teams most both 36ers and Gilas

                        On defense obviously rim protector

BTW it is not unusual to have a different style game in your junior years as compared to your senior years
We have to realize what one gets away with in juniors and when your the main man is very different when you're a role player with better coaches and players as teammates

                        • If Kai's gonna be a rim-runner and PnR guy, good thing that he went abroad first. He'll really shine as a rim-runner there hopefully. He has better spacing around him if he goes to the PnR, something that he's not gonna get much of had he stayed in the Philippines.

In the Philippines kasi, the floor is too cramped for PnR and rim running. Not a lot of three-point shooting, and teammates and opponents will gravitate towards the lane as the ball gets closer to the basket. He won't get as many touches. More of his opportunities will come in the low-post. In the Philippines, that's fine, but it's different in FIBA and almost anywhere else.

ZHOU QI, he has all the package that suits Kai's ceiling - tall, smart, and a tenacious defender.

porzingis is too athletic, a shooter from the perimeter to follow by kai.

                            jokic is deceptively strong.

gobert is a defensive bigman which kai is not.

kai has a higher ceiling than haddadi. too slow compare to kai.

kai is already better than japeth at this point and at age 19. playing in the nbl and actually having an actual playing time is a mean feat to every pinoy cagers. the only player that i believe that has mean feat that is comparable to kai is rayray parks during his texas legend stint in the G-League.

                            • Really to Kai's credit at a young age he's shown how to still be effective without the ball and plays for him .

It's excellent exposure for Kai to develop without being the main man . And rely on one on one iso. This to me is the problem.with the one and one centric Philippine basketball. You look.at Thirdy.. he's Mano o Mano centric developed.. so with Kobe

It becomes worst if you can dominate down low with your height advantage. Other parts of one's game are not developed

Yeah. I only wish Kobe will show the same capability to still be effective without the ball, and when plays aren't called for him.
