I hope the others (GDLs, CariƱo) play better and are developed better.

Goddamn, Thirdy. A month coming off injury and still no outside shot?

I personally think that while scouts are still important, their importance has slightly been diminished with the advent of the internet. Everyone can look up footage with the touch of a button, and Givony does get a lot of things wrong, he's playing the same guessing game we all are. The reason he's being paid, is because he made it into his career and set up one of the first draft sites in the internet. That doesn't mean his assessments are the best. Halimbawa, Dashien Nix was top 5 of his PGs going into the draft. Nix went undrafted.

Not saying he's not reliable. I'm just saying he's also prone to human error like we all are. It's the same thing as calling out Pinoy coaches for being behind, or Ignite's coaching staff for only thinking of themselves and not actually developing the kids.

Well said Jasper, the internet and social media was really the great equalizer. It is giving everyone equal chance as long as you have an eye for it.

I dont claim that I am 100% sure about Kai and Chet but I know that my points has a strong valid facts on both players.

@ Noinu All is well. I respect your points as always.

Givony shoot to fame really was the popularity of their website and not really about his skills in assessing talents. If he was indeed a real scout and one of the best, he would be working for NBA teams. Their site is just a guide on who to check but isnt really reliable for actual assessment.

Perhaps that's why when people search for his basketball background, nothing to see there.
Yes, he is a mere writer and not a scout. Usually real scouts work on the background and they really travel to watch the games.

Also, kai's scouting report is so outdated. It is still last u19 and Pre-TSF. Kai will have more exposure with NBL and with espn australia covering their games.

I have yet to see a mock draft report mentioning Kai's performance last 3rd window and during OQT. Wala talaga panahon yang mga yan to check and mostly is it consensus mock and Buzz based as their main criteria.

            • OT: but really relevant to Kai. Here is a recent mock draft from draft room and somehow this is acceptable for me.

              https://nbadraftroom.com/p/chet-holmgren/

Chet is a very unique prospect. At nearly 7 feet tall with exceptional length he’s an agile, skinny and lanky center who dominates lower levels of play and is an absolute force as a shot blocker. His quickness and agility are outstanding and he’s got great anticipation and reaction as a shot-blocker and is very quick off his feet. But he’s painfully skinny and doesn’t have a frame that’ll add weight easily. Despite his lack of strength/weight he controls the paint on the defense end and is a legit rim protector.

On the offensive side Chet shows stretch ability and a lot of talent as a face-up scorer. He can shoot the ball from deep and has good handles and nimble feet, allowing him to get to the basket with ease. He’s got an easy, effortless stroke with 3pt accuracy and can also shoot off the dribble, which is really outstanding for a young 7-footer.

His 3pt shooting ability is a natural fit for today’s NBA and could be one of his primary ways of scoring the ball at the next level.

Chet is easily one of the top prospects in his class and projects as a likely lottery pick in 2022 with top 5 potential.

              Comparisons
              poor man’s Dirk
              Marcus Camby on defense
              Draft Projection
top 3 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft

Somehow he is already dropping on some mocks as I predicted. If his body wont improve next year, I predict he will further fall up to mid to late first round. His body would need multiple years to be ready. I dont know if teams would be willing to wait and gamble their lottery picks to that kind of player.

That Dirk on offense is achievable but he wont reach it on my opinion. Also that Camby on defense is a far stretch, Camby fluorish in the Era of bigs. The current NBA is weaker but somehow Im seeing that there is a resurgence of bigs once again.
Teams will be hoarding stoppers for Giannis, Embiid and Jokic. Chet's draft ranking would really be dependent on that body and as draft room said that body isn't really easy to develop same with what I said.

I do apologize for somehow thinking differently than most. I just see things differently and most of my takes were projections.

              • It’s not your thinking differently that turns people off. It’s the way you handle yourself with that strong conviction that your takes are better than everyone else's. Of course you wouldn’t notice that yourself and no one is saying you need to change. Just expect people to continually call you out or rub you the wrong way. I don’t think that’s fine by you as I can see you went out of your way to apologize. But you needed this 2nd party perspective why a lot of your fellow posters seem to pick on you lately.
Never look too far ahead. You might stumble on a block right in front of you.

I admit i am not the most likable dude. I am just confident with my takes that sets others off. You will hate me for being confident but i didnt mean to insult anyone or to say i am better than others. I just stick to my takes no matter what. Also, it is not good to overly argue. Im guilty and it is not good to this forum. Ill take a hiatus till NBL.

                    • Everybody here is rooting for Kai, i think even the most toxic of trolls here are secretly wishing for him to succeed, but you know, trolls gotta troll.

We just need to temper our expectations. We already got burned bigtime by Japhet, Parks and Kobe

Law of chance indicates we will hit the jackpot this time with Kai Sotto. Subrang malas na natin if Kai turns out to be a failure with Japeth, Parks, & Kobe already failures as far as their NBA dreams are concerned.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Which begs the question, if someone like Kai couldn’t crack the NBA, who could?

To me our best chance is someone who eligible and spends 4 years in Div 1 developing, and is a specialist role player. that a team needs , a defender like Norwood who is efficient as a shooter 3 - D.
