for the first time in history there are/were serious talks about having a complete foreigner as naturalized player. but it mostly started because an American player Perry Petty (who is very popular) showed interest to play for the NT.

and the guy is quite famous because of this ! a 3 pointer with only 0.3 seconds to go in the ISL final. that throw brought the game to overtime and his club later won the game and the championship (key players from the other team including Samad Nikkhah and Mehdi Kamrani were fouled out)

even though Iran Basketball federation never said yes or no. their reaction was something like hmm, let's see, we don't know lol they also revealed Mike Rostampoor is in fact a naturalized player (his father is Iranian but he received his passport after the age of 16) and if they ever want to have a naturalized player they have to drop Rostampoor.

that's probably not possible in Iran to have a naturalized player. that's just too complicated and the basketball federation has no influence for that. but the IRIBF is monitoring another player in Europe with Iranian heritage. this time in Germany, Philip Jalalpoor.

        You are welcome

the IRIBF invited a list of 18 players for the last qualification windrow of FIBA Asia Cup. this is the preliminary list for the Olympics too. the only notable name missing is Sajjad Mashayekhi. I don't know if he is injured or they just dropped him! Arsalan Kazemi is back to the team after 2.5 years. he was left out of the World Cup squad because of some problems with the coach. Philip Jalalpoor is also listed as his Iranian name Pooyan.

Iran will travel to Jordan for the last FIBA Asia Cup Qualifier window with 13 players. only Haddadi is missing, he is still dealing with his injuries. but this probably shows a glimpse of the Olympic squad

          PG: Jalalpour, Vahedi, Hosseinzadeh
          SG: Yakhchali, Davarpanah, Rezaeifar
          SF: Jamshidi, Nikkhah B
          PF: Kazemi, Hassanzadeh, Rostampour
          C: Geramipour, Arghavan

barring injuries, the only possible change is Haddadi. I don't expect anybody else to be added to this list for the Olympics. we still don't know why Mashayekhi wasn't in the original roster, they claim that's just a technical decision but I have a feeling that's something with the coach.

Iran was extremely poor in last window, narrowly beating KSA and losing to Syria. that's not acceptable. but that was just the beginning of the Iranian league and most of the team came to that game "without playing a single official basketball game in a year" because of the pandemic. that's no excuse though. but I'm sure this window will be completely different even without Haddadi.

Jalalpour will have his debut with the NT, I wasn't sure if he and Rostampour could play together (Rostampour is considered a naturalized player) but it seems he had his Iranian passport long time ago. Arsalan Kazemi also will be back to the NT after 3 years.

also it's interesting to have both Samad NB and Davarpanah in the squad. they almost had a fight during the Iranian league semifinal. they claim they didn't bring their club problems to the NT.

Wait are Samad and Davarpanah team mates on their club team? Its a non issues if they fight if they are from opposing teams as this is inevitable in professional level, but different case if youre teammates especially with these 2 OG's for Iran. Or lets just say this 2 is too valuable to lose for the Olympics

no they weren't teammates, Samad played for Mahram while Davarpanah was in Naft Abadan club. that semifinal series went to the 5th game with Mahram winning 3-2. Naft had the chance to win both 4th and 5th games. lost big leads in last 4-5 minutes twice.

for whatever reason Davarpanah never shined with the NT, while he is a completely different player in club games. always carrying his team on his shoulders.

I really remember him to be dependable enough as wing guy(although more of sg as he is small at 6'3) like afagh but I remember him shine the most when Iran well I remember now, without Samad in the lineup.

Seems the team or federation isnt fond of hiring foreign coaches anymore..

the west did a great job destroying Iran's economy, (not as bad as Lebanon but still) the IRIBF can't hire a good or even mediocre foreign coach anymore. (not now, not in future) and hiring an unknown coach from Eastern Europe won't help much
