    Oly you sound like Bernie with the corporation vilification. Like the corporation is some singular thing in itself.
    There aren’t thousands of workers who benefit from it as well.

    China: 55 new cases - 5 new deaths

    Is it ridiculous or what?

    I wouldn’t completely discount it. It’s a lot easier to eradicate a virus from the population when all means are at your disposal. I wouldn’t put it past that government.

    Imo it's absolutely impossible. Some undetected carriers could start the whole thing again. But the numbers go miraculously down.

    I think they are still misinforming the world, creating false hopes about the development of the corona-sickness. Such development is possible either if there is a vaccine or if a vast percentage of the population has become immune. The latter means tents of millions infected and millions of deaths in China.

    There are stories out today that they are severely underplaying the death toll. I don’t know but like I said I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

    I never believe the numbers given by China, Iran, Turkey etc.

    Beside lack of transparency, China has to pay for it. They misinformed the world and caused spreading the virus.

    Come on man. You really think that Trump as President can’t leverage a particular state to do something as significant as lifting a pseudo martial law if he really wanted to ? The truth is discussing anything political with you is pointless.You are prone to exaggeration. I can agree and disagree with policies even if they come from someone I support. You do the exact same thing with Olympiakos. If you want a serious discussion let me know.

    Corporation is not one thing but many corporations have a single goal: profit for the shareholders. This need will undermine all other parts of the operations especially when it comes to "unskilled" (not sure if this is the proper term) workers. The research scientists at Amazon will sure have a sweet time but the same can't be told for the warehouse workers.

    There is a reason that unions are formed. People don't do it out of spite for their employer. It's the fact that a lot of them are not treated with respect, working crazy hours, minimal compensations, wrongful terminations (when you get sick or pregnant), shitty healthcare. This is what people have against "corporations". That they will put aside anything just to make the necessary quarter profits.

    When there is no state interference (or how kids call it these days "the free market"), there is no stopping this greed for profits which can be satisfied by usually trampling on workers.

    I had read a nice comment once that said:
    There should be no billionaires. After 999 million, every cent you make should be put towards some collective goal (whatever that is).
    I fully agree with this view.

    People don't understand that they are closer to being homeless than being billionaires. People should stop treating the oppressors as gods.

    @Paspalj

    I can not argue with some of your points. But outlawing billionaires is silly. They get taxed accordingly for their ridiculous wealth. And as crazy as it all seems to me and you even a billion dollars is relative. It’s like if I go to the casino and gamble with a few hundred dollars with no regrets if I lose it, that’s somebody else’s food money or shelter. This country is built on the entrepreneurial spirit and you can’t cap that by some arbitrary number. Yes corporations answer to stock holders but like you said they create jobs that help support families. I am all for unions. Like I said I was a Democrat for 20 years. But sadly today’s average union worker probably supports President Trump than the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party abandoned the blue collar working American years ago. I think every individual should be incentivize to strive for greatness and not be part of some collective group. I look at like this. If people aren’t willing to work for the cheap wages then the companies would have less profits and have to pay more. It’s supply and demand. In NYC where I grew up in the 1980’s
    a grill man in the average Diner who was often Greek made $500-700 a week. A serious wage in those days for an unskilled worker. But ridiculous immigration policies forced him to find another job since there was an influx of people willing to do the job for almost half the price. The owner was perfectly happy to pay the original high wage but when he had the option to increase his revenue like that, how could he say no ?

    @Paspalj

    The free market is what outsourced all those jobs to China and put the US in the position they are in now when it comes to Chinese reliance for medical supplies, antibiotics and basically just about everything. Republican and Democratic leaders both share the blame for creating the monster that is China. And yes that was all due to greed. That’s another reason I like Trumps novel approach and line of thinking. Look where China was 25+ years ago as opposed to now. American corporate greed led to that.

    That's the absolute success of the system. The mental control over the masses.

    I think control is a crucial word. That’s where I think fundamentally Paspalj and I differ when it comes to the role and function of government. The smaller, less intrusive, controlling government the better. Big government means less freedom and liberty. I don’t want them interfering in every aspect of my life.

    Independent of the size of the government (I hate the existence of State too but on a completely different level) I believe that is society’s obligation to care for it’s weaker members. Unfortunately that won’t happen when people are left unchecked. Sad but true. We are not educated enough.

    On the other hand, some hardcore “conservatives” (the modern use of the word is not proper) believe that there should be no taxes at all, failing to understand how infrastructure works.

    Yeah that’s insane. I like our escalating tax system. The rich should pay a larger percentage as they do. Not only because it’s fair but also I also think that they have the most to protect and risk and therefore should shoulder a greater burden in funding the government.

    On the subject of billionaires. It was the captains of industry like Rockefeller, Carnegie and JP Morgan during the late 19th century that because of their obscene wealth (inflation adjusted would make today’s billionaire look like peasants) built the modern day foundation and charity system. They were so rich they truly didn’t know what to do with all that money so they competed against each other in this way.

    But isn't this infuriating and indicative of a broken system? The fact that we have to rely on the generosity (and boredom) of some very rich people in order to take care those in need? Not to mention different schemes and loopholes that they usually find so they can write off charity in order to get the appropriate book-balancing and tax breaks.

    There were stories about 10+ million cell phone subscriptions suddenly dropping off of the system in China, with no logical explanation (other than death).

    Now, even though the story looked genuine, I don't know if it is true. Every side seems to have an agenda and they constantly fabricate "news".
