Never look too far ahead. You might stumble on a block right in front of you.

Well they finished 2nd in last seasons philippine cup elims with Abueva. So they are indeed scary. The big 4 of Phoenix (Perk. Chua. Wright and Abueva) scored a combined 88 points. Wala pa yung bench mob like RR. Rios and Jay R Reyes

So the one that matches the popularity of Ginebra is Abueva?

Wow. His popularity is almost comparable to Jawo.

yun nga eh for so long the PBA has been looking for a new face especially with Yap and Caguioa (who both carried the league in the 2000s)are about to retire, Abueva, though polarizing, is the perfect epitome for Filipino basketball (undersized, pesky, tough, maangas), buwis buhay) and could be a cash cow

-or maybe this is just the effect of his prolonged suspension, but nevertheless, the league will benefit from Abueva's sudden popularity

Well, Abueva represents the NSD mantra better than the whole Ginebra squad.

Abueva is already a popular player even before the suspension. I think he will be even more popular in his return.

Well it is his first game back in over a year, people will be curious how he looks, does he have the same antics etc. But it was indeed impressive. Especially they played on a Monday and against an unpopular team in nlex

probably kiefer/rayray or a incoming kobe or ricci (papogian vs never say die attitude), sayang a junmar-abueva rivalry could have been great, remember Calvin won the only award that has eluded Junmar's career, the ROY.

or Al Francis Chua, like the Austin-McMahon WWF/WWE feud of the 90s.,

Its not necessary for Calvin to have a rival. He himself is already a brand, well loved by the filipinos in general. Love him or hate him he is already popular. The views on the livestream speak for itself.

I got so used to Abueva being maangas. It was funny when he hugged McAloney when they bumped into each other lol

Yap is very popular in his early years in the PBA (maybe thanks to Kris Aquino's media power) but with his rival with Caguioa cemented that status become as "face" of the PBA.. Yap is very popular even with class A,B fans whiel Caguioa is a "masa" like popularity (thanks to Ginebra's popularity)..
Arwind is old already but it was a good comparison between those two. Both from the same province, almost identical style of play, antics, same management etc. Around 2015 when Yap and Caguioa were starting to decline I remember a lot of fans thinking of a new rivalry. Castro vs Lee, Fajardo vs Slaughter surprisingly Abueva vs Romeo. Jalalon vs Scottie hasnt panned out yet.

Well if you insist. I think Vic Manuel is a good rival for the beast. Belonged in the same draft class

Correct me if im wrong but part of his being maangas pre suspension was generated by the fans. His on court antics as well.
