TY Tang and other Benilde coaches furloughed due to covid-19 cost cutting measures, sad day, a number of my friends (faculty) who are part of the academe were furloughed too due to covid
I fear that's only the beginning. With the uncertainty facing a lot of our institutions I expect it will get worse in the coming months.. and that's CSB na one of our supposed to be higher end college.

Not really sure ... but I think this is him (ethan)

        • Mapua MBT is still having difficulty in recruiting of blue-chip players like SBU and Letran. (Our school is stingy when it comes to financial support). And since there's no more FSA's, team recruited 3 former TIP players (6'6 Santos, 6'3 Soriano and 6'4 Navarro).

That's a very long college career including his stint with Ateneo. I think he should jump up in the PBA to fast track his development.

no booster/financial backers? I guess that bigwigs of Malayan Insurance are not basketball fans, too bad Mapua usually has a great program

Sad to say, it’s a big YES, we don’t have bigtime backer/sponsor (not sure if Nap Guttierez is still there as he has good connections too). During the pre-Malayan era, we have good players especially in that Season 77 (2001). We made it to the Final 4 but only losing by close margin against the twice -to-beat Baste (bannered by Mark Macapagal, 6-7 Pep Moore, Alfad & Coronel). We have guys like 6-3 Feliciano, 6-5 Steve Marucot, 6-6 Robert Dula, 6-7 Rojas, Jeff Matin, and 3Pt specialist Robert Lagar and Erwin Sta.Maria (played in Phil Patriots in ABL) with head coach Horacio Lim.
In Leo Isaac era, we had Kelvin dela Pena but not enough to carry the team to championship. In Chito’s time, we had Yousef Taja and Josan Nimes but the team is not that strong coz other schools are catching up of recruiting good players. Atoy Co had Allwell Oraeme lol but after that, the school did not have any FSA. Afaik, the school are getting their players from that Kapampangan Navarro (not sure if still part of DLSU coaching staff) and some of Randy Alcantara’s connection (Ayo).
Our team B and Red Robins are also good team. Japeth played in the Red Robins but another big named Galinato is far better than him. We’re getting used to it that our junior players will not commit to MIT right after they completed their high school diploma. Example of these are: Mark Telan, Japeth Aguilar, Galinato, Dela Cruz, Mike Enriquez, Sherwin Concepcion, Clint Escamis, and Jonel Policarpio.

I forgot the name of that guy, a point guard a bit older than Ortiguerra. I think was one of the mythical players in the Asian Basketball Confederation Juniors Championship(i think it was '95 in Manila). Was a very good passer and was dominating the juniors back then. However his pro career did not pan out.

I think one factor why Mapua has not been getting blue chip recruits since they are known for being a 4 term school. Pagod yan academic and sports wise

Yeah probably that’s one of the factor.
But most of them are getting management or non-engineering courses.
A decade ago, players were taking up engineering courses.
