I want to ask the Fener fans what is the general consensus about Sloukas not touching the banner honoring Kemal as the rest of the team did?

It got quite ugly on twitter as I saw with a massive nationalistic fervor rising.

My estimation off the top of my head is 1/3 of people said it was disrespectful, with 2/3 of people saying he didn't need to hold the banner and going off on Kosta for this is stupid. Even though Atatürk is the founder of the country and was respectful to Greeks overall, I can understand his not wanting to participate - people are being way too proud without thinking what would they say if it was a Turkish player in Greece and the roles were reversed lol

That being said, yesterday some fans joined the team after the training for morale and they say Sloukas didn't seem upset at all. I'm glad the reaction from some people didn't affect him (at least seemingly)

Thanks. That's good. It shows that many more than the extremists have common sence.

From the beginning this was exaggerated by people who like to cause trouble. To be honest, I think it was extreme from Fener's side to make the players carry out a banner for national reasons.

From the moment Sloukas has never said anything disrespectful or acted in a way to dishonor Turkey then everything was over the top.

I just hope Sloukas doesnt bump into a nut or nuts on the street.

As usual great coaching by Giatras (Prometheus), as a result Pana was surprisingly eliminated (Greek cup, quarterfinals). The owner expressed his irritation, let's see if this result will provoke a positive or a negative reaction.

I wonder why a coach who has already shown to be able to get the 110% of his players (of course budget is very limited) doesn't arouse any interest by big teams. Last year he humiliated (winning the series, not a single game) AEK Athens (OK, the coach was the laughable Luca Banchi and this made things far easier).

With coaches inverted Pana would have easily won this game.

Sloukas has every right to disagree and not hold the banner; i don't think he had to release a statement, but probably he was advised to do so, as we as a nation are in the berserk mode right now. We've lost it.

Did you just insult our glorious nation?!!1 /s

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of the revolutions of Atatürk but the nationalism and enthusiasm for war (not for this incident, in general) is so over the top here right now

                          I support what Sloukas did.

Club didn't make players to carry out banner, who doesn't want to involve could easily do this as Sloukas did.

Atataturk is not a figure who supported racism. That day was national mourning and team carried banner related it.

I cant say that who all ugly thins came from extremists, they are maybe less than vivo's guest.
Main reason of this exaggeration, this was very good time for the people who are not happy with Fenerbahce basketball team's success, and they used this opportunity to support oppositional side. There are some group fan of our rival and worse, there some Fenerbahce fans/journalists they think that reducing basketball budget will help football team..

So ultimately it's more internal and opposition politics than a national issue. Thank's for the insight. It seems to have blown over now.
