    • To be fair to Coach Chot... his DDO was exactly what Sandy is preaching in this article. The DDO was indeed a concept that the players embraced and understood rather than the usual set plays that Pinoy coaches mostly use to this date.

"If there are any coaches out there reading this: It's not about X's and O's, where you're supposed to go, or what you're supposed to do," he said. "It's concepts, both offensively and defensively. It's a concept like if you're not open, move the ball to the open man. It's very simple, but we see that a lot. If you don't have a shot and there's a bad closeout, penetrate, attract the defense, move the ball to the next man."

simple... because you have influential alumni backing the major schools in the country. And all of them.. i mean ALL OF THEM have vested interests that require ROI.

        Ateneo - MVP
        San Beda - MVP
        UP - Gokongwei
        La Salle - Cojuangco
        Letran - Ramon Ang
        FEU - Montinola
        NU - Sy

and I haven't mentioned the CESAFI teams and other provincial leagues..

        It's corruption.

hard to accept , but it's true , a microcosm of Philippine culture, really. It's an undeniable truth of our root problem..

You can try to address all the other stuff (preperation etc) but unless your address the root of the problem all steps will really just be temporary (band aids)

You can say that ABS-CBN is as big as an enabler as MVP is. I mean ABS provides these boosters an avenue and channel to "show their school spirit"

I am still iffy on Jimmy Alapag.. I mean no doubt he will succeed as a head coach. he has the right attitude and mindset. but I think it is still too early for him to have this kind of task at hand.. this big i mean World Cup and being hosts? those are big responsibilities to handle at this young of a career in head coaching.. but i really do think he will take the reigns of Gilas sooner rather than later.. he is the perfect face to run the team.. I just think it is too early..

                UNLESS

a very well established Euro or ARG (yes i really do think the perfect fit internationally for Gilas Pilipinas is an Argentinian coach style of play) is willing to step in as active assistant coach to Alapag.. that would really be a good combination.. imagine the Russo Brothers, directors of Avengers IW and Endgame.. they are co-directors and are very successful at that.. but in basketball there can't be a co-head coach.. so in this way both head coach alapag and active lead assistant coach (whoever Euro or ARG coach) will lead the team and share knowledge to be successful

for Tab, I do think he should stick in the youth program and BE ACTIVE on that.. because from what I see, he can teach and instill to our youth and young players THE PROPER WAY OF PLAYING BASKETBALL.. that would be the perfect fit..

Active Lead Assistant Coach: Established Euro or ARG coach
Assistant Coach on Defense: Aldin Ayo
Active Consultant on Defense: Tab Baldwin

Now for me all we need are good scouting coaches and a good offensive or shooting coach..

with the proper players and mindset, i bet my dollar's ass we will go to the second round..

The proper timing is now actually... 2023 is still 3-4 years, enough tuornament for Alapag to harness his ciaching from SEAG, Fiba Asia Qualifiere, FIBA Asia in 2021,Asian Games in 2022,and World Cup Qualifier windows plus Pocket tuorney like Jones Cup, Qatar Invitational on the sides.... Pag dating ng 2023, batak na ang mga players...

UST is a bad defensive team. Why make him your defensive specialist. When he has no experience in fiba as well

Well, Tab is there who is our defensive specialist in 2014 and 2016 (well he was a head coach so he didn't focus on that).. I put him there as our future.. if you notice Tab Baldwin is there as ACTIVE CONSULTANT - meaning he has to be with the team and has a major role in play.. so basically Tab is our defense specialist.. assistant nya si Aldin..

you know, I am not that fully sold on Aldin yet.. but whenever I see him during his Letran days and partially in La Salle, and now in UST, there is something in him that makes the other team disrupted.. he is a good disruptor.. it is not technical but he is good at really disrupting your rhythm lalo na kapag napagaralan ka na nya..

i am good if he is not there but Tab HAS TO..

Because of his moral "victory" against Ateneo? He's everyone's flavor of the month. His mind game could lead to embarrassing incidents for our team. I never liked him but I'm not totally against to giving a post in our NT.

Will he be ok with filfors in the NT though?

I view ayo as a good defensive coach. they switch a lot and rotate well on D. And they play hard. Undersize lng talaga yung lineup. They are really small at pg and pf. even chabi yo is not that big.
Last year, ust didn't have a good lineup but they performed relatively well. If not for injuries, they might have performed even better. Yung defense nya yung bumubuhay.
