I would prefer a Spanish coach over a Serbian coach

Honestly as long as its European style basketball then I’m all for it. I would prefer a euro run and gun similar to what Italy’s system is.

for me, top priority is prep time. regular tuneups with teams better than us.
    2nd is the coach
3rd is the players. dont care if its pba, 23 on 23 or mix. I want a real program and I want them to stick with it.

I think it would help to take a look at previous national team coaching choices, and team composition.
    Roughly, the notable teams were

1980's Ron Jacobs-dedicated amateur team with naturalized players, gold '85 Asian ch, bronze '86 Asiad

    1990 Jaworski-pro selection, silver medal

1994 Norman Black-pro selection (basically SMB club with additional pros and ams), no medal

    1998 Tim Cone-"Centennial Team," bronze '98 Asiad

    2002 Uichico-pro selection including Fil-Ams, no medal

    SBP era
Toroman, Chot Reyes silver '13 Baldwin silver '15, Guiao

I think Tab would be the best choice to succeed Guiao because

one, he's already familiar with the Philippine game. Two, he already has invaluable FIBA head coaching experience, Gilas or otherwise. And three, having spent enough time locally he'll be able to navigate thru local hoops politics unscathed.

Maybe because of a career resurgence in the PBA?

...which does not translate to FIBA at all.

Please, no more coaches from the PBA. The NT needs someone who can already provide a framework of team-oriented Euro style of play, not study the concept itself while already coaching Gilas.

Spain has the best domestic league system in Europe and they have a lot of good homegrown coaches. Plus we have a lot in common with them culturally so there won't be as much adjustment as with say a Serbian or Lithuanian coach. Toroman struggled here because he was used to the drill sergeant style of coaching which is prevalent in Serbia...

whoever coach they will choose, i hope they will give that coach the support especially from the pba and that he may also have a hand with the development of the youth teams. sbp should make the pba do the drastic change in pba like 2 conference season. and likewise have a hand with the high school/college leagues like cutting down the all too many tournaments the high school and college teams play

Why cant they make the most obvious decision to name Tab Baldwin head coach up to 2023? He knows our culture more than any other foreign coach and knows more about our players. He actually has a say about the development of Kai Sotto. Imagine if they there was continuity from 2016-2023. But then again he probably wont produce a stretch 4 Isaac Go and a playmaking thirdy even a more versatile william navarro.
