  • I noticed that 16yo Tubelis and 16yo Murauskas have pretty much similar stats in NKL. Those 2 goes toe to toe thus far in their own age groups. IMO, Tubelis has higher floor, there's no way he's ain't becoming a player, he is already pretty much. While Murauskas has probably lower floor, but higher ceiling. The latter isn't as tough and intimidating physically as Tubelis, but has extremely long hands, certain smoothness, puts the ball on the floor more than Tubelis (well, their positions differ as Tubelis is 5/4 and Murauskas 4/3, but still) and essentially is a little bit more talented and special if he can reach his ceiling. Will be interesting to see if Murauskas will choose NCAA or will go Zalgiris' ways:

    Tubelis 19min, 9,6pts, 9,5eff
    Murauskas 21min, 10,2pts, 7,8eff

Will be interesting to see how they will be balling together for U19 NT.

    • Already looking forward what kind of leap Tubelis will be able to provide in his second year. He already had very solid first season with 12.2pts, 7.1rbs, the bar is pretty high, but he should be able to work on this. D. Sabonis made a huge leap in his second season, huge. From 9.7pts kinda guy who struggles defensively, he became best player of Gonzaga with 17,6ppg, 11,8rbs, 1,8as. Now Tubelis scoring wise might reach these numbers, IMO, he won't be as dominant rebounder, specially that he will play as a power forward mainly, IMO, and won't be as good of a passer. Nevertheless, there's only positive feedback around him, including new coach Tommy Lloyd, the guy who brought Domas to NCAA from Spain.

Arizona's power forward situation is pretty simple because there really isn't a lot of depth here. The clear option is Azuolas Tubelis and you can make an easy argument that he will make a push to be the best player on the team.

Tubelis was moved into the starting lineup after just six games and closed last season by receiving Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors twice (Feb. 22, March 1). In Pac-12 play, he ranked third in rebounding (7.75), 15th in scoring (13.7), second in offensive rebounds (2.8) and fourth in defensive rebounds (4.95). He scored in double figures 15 of 20 conference games, including a 31-point effort against USC and a pair of 16-point, 15-rebound games against USC and Washington.

It will be interesting to see how Tommy Lloyd uses Tubelis in this system, but it is safe to say that he will be the same threat as he was last season and likely better. The new coaching staff was able to work with the team for a few weeks and Tubelis was already getting positive reviews. There's questions about a lot of guys on the current roster, but there really aren't any with Tubelis.

      • Tubelis dominates in the first U19 exhibition game against Latvia (a win 76:64) with 18pts, 9rbs, 3as, 3bl, 2stl, 24eff in 21min. Should be one of whole U19 tournament MVPs, IMO.

        Pivorius added 19, Rubstavicius 18.

        • I believe Tubelis might be the MVP of U19 WC 2021. He had very unfortunate second game with 0 efficiency, partly duo to injury, but no-one exploded with 42 efficiency points in this tournament thus far (and he did it against elite opponent Canada abusing athletic opponents). I think at the very given moment he's surely better than Canada's Edey, probably slightly better than France's Wembanyama (could be wrong though as this prodigy might be the best already at 17), Senegal's Badji and USA's Holmgern (surely higher upside prospect, but too soft ATM). Only duo to that complete off game Tubelis stands 3rd in scoring and 4th in efficiency. Here's best plays after group stage:

                    • Very correct thought by Spokas that we have to bring Tubelis to WC window in November. IMO, he already would be a huge boost for B NT. Interesting if that's possible, but hope that new federation will take a shot for that.

                        • We need Tubelis backing up 5 position ASAP, IMO. He can dramatically improve our defensive identity and offensive pace. He can improve our transition defence which has been a problem generally all decade long. In my opinion, 20yo Tubelis should be ready for Eurobasket 2022, some solid 14-16min. I do think Tubelis and Sabonis frontline can co-exist a little bit, both mobile and well passing center forwards, but essentially this would also create an issues of spacing offensively (surely not to an extent as JV and Sabonis, but nevertheless). I surely see Sabonis and Tubelis as the main centers of 20's.

Now a lot will depend how much three point shooting Tubelis can add in upcoming few years, IMO, which will not only be decisive point of his NBA career, but also will determine whenever he will be able to play 4 on constant basis as well.

Look at TOP highlights, that's the pace:

You're still raising expectations unrealistically high for the young fellows. With the bar set so high they almost can't help but disappoint. It'll be many years yet before Ąžuolas Tubelis is a better option for the Lithuanian team than is Jonas Valančiūnas.

You don't understand the context. I wrote as soon as possible. IMO, there's a lot of chances that Tubelis can be ready for 10-15min or such in 2022 Eurobasket. The context is that nor JV, nor Sabonis are good defender. Thus it's important to have defenisve line-ups as well. From what I see, Tubelis and Sedekerskis can be our best 2 bigs defensive punch. It's about context and details, not some stupid direct generalized comparisons.

But defence was Sedekerskis' biggest problem at this summer's team camp! How do you expect him to improve that quickly?
