Australia is the Women's tournament defending champ and should again send a strong team, led by ex junior superstar Ezi Magbegor. The men's team has several NCAA players, including veterans Dejan Vasiljevic and Tanner Krebs.
USA will again be represented by NCAA colleges, Men's Clemson (20-14 last season) and Mississippi State (33-3). Both schools lost most of their best players to graduation (but they could still play at WUG) or to the pros. Rosters have not been announced so far, and it's unclear if additions from other schools are planned. -
That's strange. Lithuania is the defending champion from 2017 on the men's side but is not participating this time.

Germany University team beat Croatia twice in exhibition games, 83-45 and 89-61. German team previously played two friendlies with Ukraine splitting the result.
Mississippi State roster (representing US women) underwent substantial changes from 2018-19, having lost its three top players (McCowan, A. Howard and Danberry) and added six, both transfers and freshmen. It's a young tall team with three players standing 1.93, 1.95 and 1.98, but not at the same level of the past season.Comment

Looks like it is all CIS/UPlay guys for Canada and no NCAA players. I'd normally say that by definition makes it a weak Canadian team, but I think they have medeled in the past with just CIS/UPlay players.
Kadre Gray seems to be the best player on this squad.Comment

Italy beat USA/Clemson 73-71 in a friendly played yesterday. ITA: Mussini 19, Grande 12, Cucci and Mascolo 10 - US: John Newman III 15, Aamir Simms 11, Al-Amir Dawes 10. This Clemson team doesn't look high level, anyway played just after arrival to Italy.
In another friendly, USA women (Mississippi State) narrowly edged Japan 79-78, after a strong 2nd half. Big (195 cm) Jessika Carter scored 24 points.

Strange timings (all games played within 1pm local) and weird site/results/scores.
Australia looks one of the favorites, Asian teams and Russia are expected to be competitive as well. Some former members of Junior NT and few NCAA players can be found through European teams rosters. Canada team is almost unknown (at least to me). US is the youngest team by far, and the representing college has substantially weakened since the past season. Team's leading scorer today was incoming freshman Rickea Jackson in a game long time led by Mex.

Two remarkable results in today Men's tournament opener: Israel routed Australia 92-64 and Canada led Italy from the beginning to finish 96-70. Tutu, Gray, Diawara and Clarke scored in double digits for CAN, while Mussini led Italy with 19.

US vs Ukraine for the gold medal in the Men's tournament. A bit surprising final, after Canada and Israel shined in their groups, and a repeat of prelim round game (a one point victory of US). Curiously, both US and Ukraine advanced to Sf and to the final winning by the same points difference (+2).Comment

Australia repeats the 2017 result winning the gold medal in Women's tournament against US. Aussie women went up early in the game opening a wide gap in the 3rd quarter. US team anyway improves its final placement as compared to 2017 and Rickea Jackson, who hasn't played college basketball yet, takes top scoring honor with 22.2 ppg. She also won the 2019 U18 3x3 World Cup gold medal this year. Surprising Portugal finished strong beating Japan in OT for the bronze.Comment

US secured the result from the 1st quarter easily beating Ukraine to win gold. Strong tournament of US/Clemson men, with no great talents but full of well coached hungry youngsters. John Newman III and Aamir Simms high scored among the winners. Australia took the bronze beating Israel.Comment
