In my opinion it’s their choice and if they decided to do so then so be it. Just because they are young it’s not like they were forced to play for the country, they choose to play and change nationalities.

Not really aware of the details of benefits provided to these 15 years old
But if an academy model providing basic education and development for people from other countries who are less privileged and do not have access to the same opportunities in their homeland is provided, I am certainly all for that, that is a very laudible and good program in my view. And should actually be encouraged. We have just to many of our youth around the world who simply are underprivileged because of the state of their country.
The refugee programs or even football academies that are a way out for the underprivileged is very laudible program
And yes I think what Ateneo has provided for Kouame as well as the other schools FA, who assuming provided an education supported with board and lodging that they would otherwise not have from their home country is certainly a very praise worthy activity.Last edited by DAdmiral; 05-10-2021, 03:46 AM.

Refugee programs are good, I wouldnt call what Indonesia or Qatar are doing refugee programs though. Especially Indonesia is a country infamous for rejecting Rohingya refugees and same with Qatar and Syrian refugees. Very cynical if you consider clear basketball recruitment refugee programs.

Ok let's not compare with refugee programs, but with the football academies say in France, if they provided opportunities for African underprivilege youth or even just better than what their home country is lacking in provision, then by all means , that's totally Ok and praise worthy.

While i understand where you are coming from, it has gotten to the point that many in fact i would say majority have been misguided and are inappropriately become vocal , there is certain amount of correction that needs to made from popular belief on the issue.
On how some of our officials have responded on issues. I am seriously of the belief that because of how frequently corruption and irregularities ways of doing things in our country are so prevalent, that it has become litterally part of our culture of doing things, it requires calling out and being exposed, this is not OK. if that means exposing dirty laundry , then that's what's required. in my view it is better response than being silent about it. , it's not better for my sake , but actually for the Philippines and society. we cannot behave this way , like it's normal and OK.

Sorry Filiipinos are looking stupid when we bring this hagop rule stuff, the mere name shows the lack of information and being misguidled
But they are executing the loophole of the rule. I hope fiba also recognized and solve the loophole issue

O
If it just so happens that as a result of an excellent youth academy program a nation improves their competivnesss to being decent at Asian elite level. (Not top 5 in the world or something, which requires literally recruiting finished elite products, certainly not 15 yrs old) then the loophole to me is trivial. Nothing to worry about. It's benefits to the lives of the few African underprivileged kids far outweighs any competitive gains Indonesia will gain for basketball unfairly. There is really nothing to be concerned about in context, if anything I see what Indonesia is doing as good for increasing competitive basketball in SEA.

If this is the case.
Filipinos who are "dual citizen" (is that a better term?), or one parent is not a Filipino citizen, but the other parent is,
should be no limitations in our basketball leagues.
Pba have that "Maximum number of " Fil Foreign per team rule" ( Ayaw natin tawagin Fil- Foreign, but doesn't pba have that rule and term?)
Fiba have that " hagop rule" ( that is the term used)
As much as we want to treat them as the same as a natural born filipino with both parents a filipino/filipina natural born citizen.
We still need a term to differentiate them.
Why? Because Pba Rules and Fiba Rules are also treating them differently. (Especially if they are not born in the Philippines)
I feel some posters here prefer to call
Caelum as Fil-Am
Mason as Fil- Aus.
AJ as Fil - Nigeria
Or in short, Dual Citizen right if you want to combine them in 1 group?
Then, I will just call them dual citizen.Last edited by mathematicianrcg; 05-10-2021, 04:47 AM.

I feel that there are some misnoner here: France is a country that has long history of migration being a former colonial power. This is the same with USA, Spain, UK, Germany and Italy. Canada, Australia, New Zealand and USA are settlers' countries - these are the lands for immigrants. They have the reputation of integrating different cultures in one society.
Compare that to Indonesia who has a history against Aceh, Papua and East Timor because of their varying cultures.
Comparing them for the sake of justifying why Indonesia can take 15 year old foreign players is kinda laughable.Last edited by ja.he; 05-10-2021, 05:05 AM.Attack
