Ok, I think you've explained it quite well.a
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

    • Kobe wants to be a perimeter player. But poster-analysts are almost unanimous in saying that his perimeter game stinks. His shooting abilities are well below those for fiba perimeter players. He really needs to upgrade his shooting and traffic-weaving form. His rebounding and passing are relatively okay. But that may be due to him being unusually used as a 4 by tab. If, by chance, tab selects him against sk and other high quality nts, he just might be motivated to work on glaring deficiencies. The pba fans though would love his eye candy style.

Another dangerous tendency, usually indicated within posts, is to underestimate opponents. For instance, iran is thought weaker because old reliables are gone, rather than the more obvious fact that iran was very hard hit by covid and its sports programs were affected too. Sk deserves respect too if it would rather lose games rather than take covid risks without effective vaccination yet.

It is as if the pinoy team needs to be respected more when the quality of pinoy players may not be praiseworthy. For any pinoy nt, it is always safer to assume that all opposing nts will be strong, and concentrate on getting stronger. Only the weak concentrate on others' weaknesses.

As in, does anyone think that a lebron and davis led fiba team would bother scouting other teams??? They built their skills and reputation by being far higher in quality than all other players. That was always the correct way to play basketball.

I agree with this. With Thai having Jakrawan and another tall PF we had to go big against them. Neither Go nor Carino were mobile enough to play PF. Baltazar was already playing a lot of minutes at either position. So Kobe being the next biggest guy had to play a lot of 4.

But in Feb the PBA guys come in. So I don't expect Kobe to be playing a lot of 4.

        • This article is what nt ballers need to read. The truly strong always plan, study and work on being stronger. No strategy is more useless than hoping that other players are weaker.

Filipino-American sensation Jalen Green has drawn comparisons to the late great Kobe Bryant, especially when the former signed with the G League. Ignite coach Brian Shaw — who played with Kobe for four years and worked with the Black Mamba as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers from 2005 to 2011 — said […]

          • The problem was where Kobe spent his high school years in the States. He wasn’t being taught fundamentals and skills in Cathedral and Middlebrooks, but instead “how to build his brand.” If he had gone somewhere like IMG or TSF things might’ve been different.

            • Givony's peak projection for Kobe was a 3 and D specialist in the NBA. Obviously he didnt reach that level but hopefully he can be molded into a 3 and D specialist for Gilas.

              • next window we should get Kai and Kuoame, that's our best bet against Korea and Indonesia. We could also get Japeth as the kids' mentor if smc is willing to lend him.If Kuoame is recognized as a local we should get either Pringle or Standhardinger in the naturalized position.I'd suggest that it's Pringle because we need some veteran presence in the point guard position. I'd wait for Malonzo's time to get recognized as unrestricted by FIBA(maybe 2023-24).5 PBA players and 7 amateur players I think will be enough. I just hope they would have 30 days or more of training/practice.

                Centers- Kai 7'2, Kuoame 7"
                Power Forwards- Aguilar 6'9,Baltazar 6'8
                Small Forwards- Oftana 6'5,Paras 6'6
                Shooting Guards- Parks 6'4,Wright 6'4,Ramos 6'5
                Point Guards- Pringle 6'1,De Liaño 6'1,Perez 6'2

A good combination of height, youth, athleticism and 3 point shooting.very good shot blockers and 3 point shooters.Pringle should average at least 9 assists a game.

We'll need a bunch of young guys in the pool, apart from these players.

And, barring any FIBA classification of Kouame as a local, he can't play with Stan.

I doubt Kai would be available. Personally would rather have him training anyway.

                    • Kobe was used as 4 due to his skill set (including size) and the lack thereof relative to the rest of the players in the team.
Unless Kobe drastically improves his perimeter skill set both offense and defence it will be difficult to find a scenario in Gilas (that is wing loaded and is lacking in 4s) that he can help the team more by playing 3 over 4, regardless of his preference.
This is not a narrative based on what anyone said but purely based on analysis of Kobe's current lack of perimeter skill and relative to who the other players we have available in Gilas.
Kobe cannot play out of the 3 position better than Dwight, Javi and Oftana. And currently even with Kouame, next to Baltazar no cadet can play the 4 as well as Kobe.
It's needs of the team over preference

Ganito ka simple lang, would Kobe even be invited based on merit, play performance. To a all of college 3 point shooting competition and skills challenge, seriousluy can you say he will be a top 10 candidate to be invited for either competition if objective is to win?

Next question is Kobe a top 10 college wing 2/3 defender?

                          • Kobe seems intent in improving. I think he just needs to relax and go back to basics, he expects so much to himself that he forgot to work on the basics first. On the vid the trainor fixed his shooting form which sould do wonders once he gets usef to it

same thing here we have Alapag and Compton leaving basketball because of the uncertainty of the pandemic, however Tabet is just 30 years old and has at least a couple of years. Maybe after the pandemic he could return to playing.
