And as regards to Menk, Hatfield, Asi, Pennisi - that's the hocus pocus that went. As for Gabe, I think his claim in leg but in the case of Menk, his mother was no longer a PH citizen when he and his sister were born.
    d emoji means its sarcasm.

exemptions were made for their group becos they were already in d pba and have played in d national team.

norwoord's case was tougher as his eligibility was questioned prior to the draft. but an official legal opinion was enough.

Even under the RA 9225, Hatfield would not qualify for citizenship because his mother was no longer a PH citizen when he was born, and Hatfield was no longer a minor when RA 9225 came into law. While his mother can reclaim her citizenship, Hatfield would not be able to reclaim a citizenship he never had (because his mother can't pass her lost citizenship when he was born) unless a hocus pocus was made. If Hatfield was an ordinary folk (not an athlete-celeb), I doubt that the immigration and/or DFA would entertain him.

The same thing with Eric Menk. He was born when his mother was already a US citizen.

its important if NZ wont be in asia cup.

it would mean better chance for gilas to play in d medal rounds in august.

we want more games for gilas. and we need more games for kai.

If no New Zealand and Australia, that means Guam and Hong Kong will play in FIBA-Asia Cup. Korea, Philippines, Japan and probably China will virtually qualify the tourney. Indonesia is qualified as the host and the last slot for the eastern side will be a tossed up between Thailand and Chinese-Taipei.

Calvo is organizing a weeklong basketball camp somewhere in California in a few weeks. It will be the only chance for some of the towers to play with the guards practicing on Guam before competition week in June. Guam is allowed 12 players on a game roster, but because those spots can change from game to game, Calvo has a pool of 24 talented players.

The entire team has yet to practice on the same court but that’s nothing different from previous tournaments. When Guam successfully defended its Pacific Games gold medal in Samoa, a few standouts, such as Tai Wesley and Mikeli Wesley, joined their teammates just days before the first game.

The Wesley brothers, along with 6-foot-10 Curtis Washington, offer dominant offense and basket protection, and they won’t be alone.Younger players such as 6-foot-9 Matt Fegurgur, lefty Ben Borja and Jonathan Galloway are near-7-footers who are effective in the paint, can handle the ball and sink the deep shots

Earnest Ross, who was critical to Guam’s success when it won a tournament in Thailand, won’t make the camp but looks forward to joining the team in the Philippines, said Calvo.

Longtime Team Guam captain Willie Stinnett leads a legion of backcourt talent, including veteran Joe Blas, back with Team Guam after an almost two-year break. Stinnett still has quick hands and supreme game IQ. Joe Blas has always played taller than his 6-foot-1 and broader than his 210 pounds. Blas is relentless on defense yet patient and accurate with the three.

“My role is still the same on every team I play on,” said Blas. “First thing I always bring is defense. That’s a must to me."

Slashing playmaker Daren “D-Hech” Hechanova, while relatively new to the team, has become an established, exciting player to watch. Gifted with tremendous athleticism and quickness, teams have difficulty defending against his drive first, decide later approach. He led the Pacific Games in steals and he loves facing a challenge.

But he was barely on the court the last time in a Guam uniform. Against New Zealand, Hechanova, along with Jericho Cruz, got into foul trouble early and barely broke a sweat. Tai Wesley played just seven minutes before a leg injury ended his night.

“We’re just guards, here, really, doing guard work. But the firepower that we’re meeting up with, that’ll change everything,” said Hechanova. “We’ll have our true bigs. Now it’s just chemistry, playing hard, representing Guam and getting that win.”

The rest of the Guam Basketball Confederation’s training center is a who’s who of Guam’s best of late:

Tomas Calvo is part of the 2019 gold medal team.

Two up-and-coming shooters and slashers, Takumi Simon and Chris Connor, are developing into role players.

R.J. Kranz and Mike Sakazaki are also part of the 24.

Noticeably absent is sharpshooter J.P. Cruz. Guam will miss his ability to change game momentum and fill a scorebook, but Blas said the team will be fine.

“I’ll always miss hooping with JP. He’s one of my good friends and one of my favorite teammates. We always had good chemistry on the court,” said Blas. “He’s a hard guy to replace on the offensive end. We’re gonna really miss his shooting and ability to make plays. But we have some younger guys who can step in and bring something a little different from what JP does.”

Lets just hope & pray that matuloy na talaga yung 3rd window next month. I've been longing to watch Gilas games.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV
