  • Kai, aj and sage will only help the philippines have enough talent and size to be respectable in asia. Nothing extra will be gained without good internationally winning coaching, play systems that vastly improves on offense and defense, and 60 full man-days of preparation and practices, becoming permanent.

I'm very sad that we know they have potential but simply they don't care in basketball.. even they lost to a tiny country and less population in Bahrain in a match few months ago..

Even still, basketball is growing in India and the NBA has been growing the game and investing in India to the point there is an NBA academy in India, their basketball culture is still developing but even if they don’t care, plenty of countries don’t necessarily care about basketball but still develop good teams and talented players, as long as the right players and talent get developed they can still create a good team that can win

Yes exactly. Thats just like Japan with 5 players with some sorr of NBA experience. They fielded their best ever possible lineup and they still came second to the last. They even just scraped through against a team like NZ. Without steven Adams. Kai and other Homegrown international players will only help gilas in terms of talent. What Robert is Saying is that just because Kai is playing, PH is top 3 in asia. You have to look at tge facts. NZ has 2 top 100 players at the moment in high school. Fast improving high school program thanks to Steven Adams. China has repeatedly sent NBA prospects for the last couple of years. Guo Ailun, Abudushalamu Abudurexiti Zhou Qi, Whang Zhelin. Lets say they are NBA busts, but they are good in FIBA.

Robert you even compared Kai to Nowitzki, being a sole NBA player in a team, beating other countries? As if basketball hasn’t been more global. Even compared him to Luka Doncic? Don’t you remember that they also had Dragic bros and their Naturalized who are all NBA players. Do you really think that would be the same case fo Kai? Especially with NZ and Aus in our continent? Japan and China sending out NBA prospects. Dont get me wrong. I support Kai and Gilas. But the fact is the grassroots program sucks, pro league sucks, the politics sucks (BCAP/MVPvSMC), everything about basketball in the Philippines sucks. We are 30 years behind.

Yes, we have problems especially in our grass roots, pro leagues and sports politics but I don't think we are 30yrs behind. Are our current team and basketball organization really only at par with FIBA teams in 1990's?!.. Anyway I think due to family financial constraints, every good prospects need to have an able backer to train in the US. Hope this trend of EWP sponsoring players will continue with other backers so we can send more to the land of the free and home of the brave.

as far as growth is concerned, you need to factor also that Filipinos are getting taller each generation. It’s a slow process but we’re getting there. Our 5’4 male average height is skewed because the rest of the populace outside MM and other independent cities are poor.

So while other countries are catching up, we are getting better at the genetic lottery.

We’re honestly seeing more 6’7-6’9 guys emerge compared to a generation ago.

30 years might be a bit off, but its somewhere along those lines. PBA and NCAA rejecting to go global. PBA holding our best prospects hostage. Ano pa ba tawag dun? Listen we have to understand, we are not the only country producing Sottos, Edus or Panopios. Heck we’re not the only country that has Tuffin or Ravena playing in an overseas league. We’re not the only country that has a Parks, Ravena, Aguilar who are trying out in the NBA. In short we’re not the only country that knows about basketball.

Lol thats funny how we cry about financial constraints when other countries cant even field their best players because they cant afford to go on a international tournament. NZ best high school player last year had to beg for funds to go to the FIBA Asia tournament and the world cup. Steven Adams couldn’t play for the junior tall blacks because he couldn’t afford to go on tour. At the end of the day we’re more blessed Than other countries. We have “grassroots” programs all over the world. We have Blackwater, Smart(MVP), Star(SMC), Chooks, Milcu, Milo, EWP, ready to sponsor our players and teams.

Well, if you’re comparing us to the top ten teams in FIBA, then 30 years behind is a fair assessment.

It’s going to take time before we can catch up to those teams. We need to focus on being a consistent powerhouse in our zone.

It's too commercialized IMO. Everyone is just throwing money around avoiding real development in search of shortcuts. And the players are too pampered and sheltered. Why try playing abroad and risk losing out on millions of pesos and other benifits when you can be the biggest fish in the Philippines?

lack of options as well in the "real development" aspect. we need more sports academies/training facilities who specializes in individual training and developments catered to specific needs of each player.

Exactly we cant even be a consistent powerhouse in asia. Then all of a sudden we will be a top 3 country this decade. Im not buying it.

We have the personnel. We have all the pieces of the puzzle.

                            BUT

As long as our Basketball heads have a immature childish mind, that puzzle will never be completed.

Imagine a 1 year old Baby(SBP) trying to solve/complete a jigsaw puzzle(Gilas Players/Program). And also another baby(Pba) is hiding some puzzle pieces in his pocket.

Unless an adult person(Coach Tab) will be allowed to help and solve the puzzle, then the puzzle willl remain incomplete

                            • I hope the SBP could learn to scout talents abroad early so that they could also process their process their passports before they turn 16. Why should we scout overseas? so that we could broaden our options in getting players. Sayang yung mga Ron Harper Jr., Jeron Artest, Kai Ballungay,Quentin Millora Brown, Jordan Clarkson that we know could easily have an impact in the national team and probably in other leagues well. If we could recruit 10-15 kids a year and help them acquire passports, I don't think we wouldn't be having problems in tapping talents even if the local kids won't be allowed by their schools or handlers to play for the youth team or the senior national team.

Yes. Agreed. We must convinced them. But not FORCED them.

Like Hepa, Sbp scouted and offered him. He declined.

The best thing we can do is to gather all Fil Foreigner Tall Prospects that can play basketball. We can offer and convinve them, but they themselves will make the decision. And if they are raw. We must develop them.

Like Ethan Kirkness. Grabe pangiinsulto sa kanya dati. Ngayon, after his training with Aus, Sinasali na sya ng mga tao sa gilas pool. LOL
