  • The next big thing from Greek basketball is called Zois Karampelas

This kid who plays for Peristeri who's 18 year's old started off the bench and by season's end, finish as his team's 1st choice point guard.

He managed 10 assists today in the 3rd play off vs Panathinaikos and ran Calathes rugged giving Nick a very difficult time.

In his 3 play off games vs PAO he had 4,6 and 10 assists respectively.

He has 360 court vision and it seems Greece has found a point guard in the Diamantidis/ Papaloukas/ Spanoulis passing mould. He plays the P'n'R excellently while his one arm cross passes are what you would expect from a more experienced guard.

His only downside is that he's shortish (1.83 cms) but so is Huertel.

Panathinaikos is not just a club. It's a religion.

You could do worse than play for Barca and French NT

I just noticed Huertel is 1.89 cms. He looked shorter!

Campazzo is 1.79 cm, and Dixon 1.78. Not a true problem.

Is that Peristeri guy right? Well I watched him. A good ballhandler, rest is ok but not a powerprospect. You can expect something from Manzoukas or from Kalaitza

Kalaitzakis has been disappointing in my eyes. He's supposed to be a pg but his ball handing is terrible at A1 level and has the ball stolen when dribbling. He has no confidence and usually turns his back to the defender when dribbling to protest the ball. This means he can't see half the court. As a shooting guard, he is a poor shooter. Most the time when the gets the ball in his hands he seems a headless chicken and there is panic in his play. He is fast and athletic with long arms but still has the body of a 16 year old. Too skinny.

Overall, very little progress this year where he should have been doing more at A1 level and not playing trash time with PAO ahead by 20.

Giorgos Tsalbouris (born 1996) showed the most promise this year, starting many games and playing during crucial time. 2.16 3 point shooting centre but he needs to beef up to go to the next level.

Mantzoukas is way to raw and only 16-17 for now though he's very talented.

Karampelas is the most impressive young Greek player I've seen in many years. He plays without fear and even when he makes a mistake he doesn't care but simply moves on. Most young players dwell on their previous mistake but he doesn't. He's lucky because he has a good coach to help him develop his game and is always encouraging him to do the right thing (ie take a shot if free even if his team is running a play).

I have known him since he was a little kid.

Very well coached, some talent, but his advantage is that he is a very hard worker.

I hope I am proved wrong but I don't think he has the necessary size to make it big time. He can be a Euroleague back up PG for a non-playoffs team and I believe that that's his ceiling.
