SBP appoints Tim Cone as Gilas coach for SEA Games

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced on Monday that Barangay Ginebra's lead tactician Tim Cone will be the head coach for Gilas Pilipinas in the upcoming 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

The winningest coach in PBA history emerged as the top bet to spearhead the country's campaign in the biennial meet, having the respect of the entire Philippine basketball community and the chops to form a team into a cohesive unit in a short period of time.

"I spoke to Tim Cone last Saturday and he expressed interested but wanted to finish his game last night and talk to his family first," said SBP president Al Panlilio. "Now I'm very happy to announce that coach Tim has officially accepted the role as head coach for Gilas Pilipinas Men in the upcoming SEA Games."

Panlilio added that he respected the decision of Cone, who was already given the go-ahead by San Miguel Corporation President Ramon S. Ang and Sports Director Alfrancis Chua, to talk to his family first, knowing the sacrifices his family will have to make because of the massive responsibility.

Let's assume that Bowles will play and prepare as such.. The 1st question is who do we select to match up with Bowles or defends him? STANDHARDINGER? Troy, sino?

So the possible 5 players from Ginebra:

    1. Scottie Thompson
    2. Stanley Pringle
    3. Japhet Aguilar
    4. Greg Slaugther
    5. and of course Joe De Vance

It is almost the starting 5 for Ginebra

He could put the whole roster in and the fans wouldn’t care because of obvious reasons

Source for Cone picking Ginebra players? I don’t think he got the memo if that is the case. I thought this is about 2023 and 2027.

Actually it is a concern he mentioned, Tab you see is a very hands on coach, (sometimes joins scrimmage) the thing he mentioned to me abou coaching young guys is it is physically demanding.. you actually have to demonstrate positioning etc, so Yup it's a concern
