Perhaps the reason why Tab has stayed in Ateneo for some years now is that there's less politics in Ateneo or the politics there is much less complicated. Pag sinabi kasing Philippine basketball as a whole, masyadong complicated yung politics.

From what I heard some PBA people didn't like coach Tab & those people happen to be among the most powerful & influential.
One of the problem with coach tab is masyadong prangka, I remember one of PBA game and he is the analyst, he frankly criticise ung officiating, natahimik ung mga kasama nyang commentaries and that's the last time nya sa PBA panel, ang masaklap, o ung may program n.a. weakest link, kalakaran naman sa atin ang eliminate the strongest Kaya halos parehas sila nang kapalaran ni coach rajko, pero isa sa mga kinabibiliban ko sa kanilang dalawa, they admire our passion

Its still about getting the job done. Can a coach be effective if doesnt get the players he needs? Basketball is not only played inside the court. He should know that.
Rightist populist din si tab kontra dilawan ika nga...but he is untouchable when it terms to handling ateneo..

Typical crap Pinoy mentality, its either you deliver or you suck. No in-between.
From being eliminated in the quarters last Phil Cup to Finals the next conf is still a failure, taas naman srandards natin

Typical American na masyadong prangka. I remember him saying that for the National team to succeed, it has to get no less than the best players. Ayon tinamaan yung mga magagaling sa SMC.

He also said like (not the exact words), "Junmar Fajardo the PBA's MVP but he is just another big man in international basketball". Ayon na offend yung mga die hard fans ni Junmar. Its as if coach Tab's words were blasphemous.

                    Mataas talaga.

Coach Rajko Toroman - led Gilas-1 to 4th place in 2011 (from a dismal 9th place in 2007 & 8th place). Got fired becoz people think he was a failure

Coach Tab Baldwin - led a depleted Gilas-3 to silver medal in 2015 but failed to pilot the team to the 2016 Olympics after losing to France & New Zealand in the 2016 Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Got fired becoz people think he was a failure

A coach has to deliver right away or else: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75SEy1qu71I

Thats supposed to be a good a skill any foreigner working in another country should have, right? Politics is almost unavoidable. If napolitika si tab sa lebanon and jordan, it simply means he cannot be effective in such places. You should be able to get cooperation from all stakeholders and not burn bridges

                      • By the way, during coach Tab's first season with Ateneo, he failed to lead the team to the championship. But Ateneo people were patient enough to stick with coach Tab. Such patience paid off.

The Ateneo people didn't expect instant success with coach Tab. Maybe mababa lang standards ng mga taga Ateneo.

                        • If I recall correctly, Tab's mandate was to build a team for the 2019 Fiba World Cup. I don't think he had enough time to see it through halfway.

...or the Ateneo community does not have a choice as MVP is picking up the "tab" (pardon the pun).....beggars can't be choosers.

Filipinos are not known to take criticisms well. This is a universally known fact.

They conflate criticism and insults as the same thing.

                              • "We also were able to strengthen the bonds of the team. We also have a basis now for making some adjustments. We're running some new plays and making adjustments on defense because of what we were able to see in Spain."

Positive as the camp was, Guiao just reminded his side to maintain their drive especially in the homestretch of their preparations.

"Just keep themselves focused on our purpose, on our practices, on our system. Just keep themselves rested, make sure that their bodies are preserved," he said.

"We want to preserve yung gains namin from Spain. Maganda yung conditioning na nakuha namin dun, maganda yung cohesion, yung adjustments ng sistema, yung absorption nila. We don't want them to forget that, we don't want them to lose their conditioning that we've gained in Spain."
