Those reporters you mentioned have exposure but are generally considered clowns here in the Us. Nobody really takes them serious. Most people don’t even watch that stuff because they know it’s about making outrageous statements every day in order to sustain a show. How can there be a major story to discuss every single day ? There isn’t. They just create them. Espn in general is pretty much mocked for its content by everyone I know. You mention Lebron getting his ass licked but he has been knocked as a choker and if you survey those shows you referenced he is hated as much as his is liked.
In my 35 years of watching the NBA everyone has gotten ripped from Magic Johnson (Tragic Johnson ‘84 Finals), even Kareem. Only one guy has gotten a free pass and it was Jordan. His coverage was absolutely disgusting. If you went by media accounts and many younger fans do you would think he was perfect and never had a bad game. He had some atrocious playoff games. And during those broadcasts the company line was “Michael doesn’t have energy today”. It was nauseating to hear. They could never just say he stinks today.
But back to the main point sure some discriminate and favor offense over defense and overall play, but it’s not because of ethnicity. Giannis will win because his team has the wins and he has the numbers. Harden will finish second because his offensive season has been historic.Silver medal 2012 Olympics prediction game.

I think he deserved his two awards. Definitely the second one because Amare Stoudemire was out basically the whole year but Phoenix didn’t miss a beat. That solidified Nash as a great. His first MVP the previous year was a close battle with Shaq that could have went either way. Both joined new teams and led them to the best records. But Nash a relatively unknown compared to Shaq actually beat him out for the award.Silver medal 2012 Olympics prediction game.

Yes but Dirk and Nash were a cut below those guys you mentioned. Great players but not on that level.
As for Giannis he hasn’t won a playoff series in his career so in a way he is sneaking up. As Walt Frazier used to say, “in the regular season you make your name and in the playoffs you make your fame”.
Giannis will be the test case for your argument. Because like I said Nowitzki and Nash and other non American greats were not the best of the best. I am talking top 10-15 all time. If Giannis wins titles and MVP’s you will see that he will get all his due. But as of now he still has to do it. I think he has the ability and he will dominate the league at some point.Last edited by usagre; 04-16-2019, 11:18 PM.Silver medal 2012 Olympics prediction game.

Hakeem Olajuwon was not an American but in the mid ‘90’s he got his due as the best player in the World. Nobody tried to argue that American born David Robinson or Shaq were better. Just to illustrate how nationality played no factor, in the lead up of the naming of the 1992 original Dream Team people were putting him in the team and then realized he wasn’t even an American. They just looked at his greatness. He became a citizen later on as a novelty in order to be eligible for the second Olympic Dream team when that term actually had meaning.Silver medal 2012 Olympics prediction game.

Some ESPN guys are talking over a script. I mean there are 2 or 3 of them, who are necessarily defending opposite views to each other, and there is a third filling the gaps. Stephen A, Skip etc are more like actors to me, fun to watch at times but nothing to take seriously.
I maybe completely wrong, never lived for a significant time in the US, but I also sense there is some discontent about Giannis being the MVP due to him being an "outsider". Harden is a typical NBA superstar and he acts like one (with his fashion, post-game interviews, memes etc.) Giannis is a superstar who doesn't act like one. He's not from the hood. But in the end, it may not matter, usagre is right, Nash, Nowitzki, etc proved that.
I'm not sure if this is a negligible number of people, but a few years back, there were some comments Curry being not black enough, for example.5 out 6 scientists say Russian roulette is safe.

This is Giannis's fifth season and unlike them, he isn't acting like an American even though he is an Afro-european (not Afro-american), they call him Greek Freak for a reason, and seriously his name is really hard to pronounce
Joking aside, I think it's a close call between Harden and Giannis, for that reason Harden is slightly ahead of Giannis for the mvp 2019 race.
I personally like shooter players more, and Harden is a better scorer than Giannis.FENERBAHÇE--- 1967, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2019, 2020 Turkish Basketball Cup Champion ---

kinda tricky. i mean, if you go pure stats Westbrook comes into mind as a solid candidate, but its really Giannis or Harden if you look at it as a whole. Due to great coaching, Giannis looks to have a good supporting cast and he is playing better as well. Harden just knows how to get buckets despite what everyone says. i think its a close call but i vote Giannis. between the 2, Giannis seem to show a lot more facet to his game that helps the Bucks. I wouldnt mind Kawhi getting it but i think he didnt show as much as the above 2 this year.WE DON'T COUNT YEARS, WE COUNT CENTURIES

Giannis wins MVP, Luka wins Rookie of the year, Rudy Gobert wins defensive player of the year, and Nikola Jokic is on the first team All NBA. I hope this dispels the silly notion of some sort of ethnic bias against Europeans by the American media
that some people around here were pushing. All of the above earned, deserved and received the awards.
Great for basketball growth in general that all were born and raised in Europe.
Doncic wins award 98-2
Giannis wins 78-23 over Harden.
Jokic finishes 4th place.Last edited by usagre; 06-25-2019, 03:54 AM.Silver medal 2012 Olympics prediction game.

6 weeks after I started this thread it’s still the same top 4 guys in the conversation. You can throw out Paul George now since his team has collapsed. For me nothing has changed and I would still vote them in the same order:
