Thread: Best and worst Lithuanian commentators

Default Best and worst Lithuanian commentators

    Elite branch: Kunigėlis, Vyšniauskas, Čeponis

They all different, but I'm fine with how they read the game and comment.

    Solid branch: Petraukas, Rytas Kazlauskas

Weak branch: Karolis Tiskevicius, Aurimas Budraitis (I'm just amazed how many mistakes they make and how horribly they read the game and no improvement year after year)

PS: I don't really put here new commentators and some NKL commentators because it's just would be not fair, I went for well known fellows.

    Elite branch: none
    Solid branch: none
Average branch: Petrauskas, Kunigelis, Vysniauskas, maybe Kazlauskas

Petrauskas and Kunigelis once were really solid commentators, I mean diction was there, knowledge was were, reaction/emotion level was right, but with time Petrauskas lost interest in it, as he admitted it himself and it was really recognizable during the games: not ready for the game, lot of mistakes, lost focus, no interest. Seems like he wants to comeback to highest level again, probably has motivation, so I'd like Viasat to give him a chance and bring him back to EL games, in duo with Vysniauskas, maybe he would gain his old form back. Kunigelis comments only NT games as much as I noticed lately, but it's really annoyin' when he and Vysniauskas are in duo and every time possible starts licking players, coaches asses, as if they makes no mistakes, everything is fine, even if team plays like shit and it's plain obvious. Of course Kunigelis works with NT, so probably just doesn't want to criticize his employee, but that's unprofessional. Vysniauskas knows the game, has good voice timbre for commentator, diction, but is boring as hell, reminds of some priest during the mass. Kazlauskas is also fine young commentator, it looks like he has what it takes to be a good one one, but needs to gain experience

I could miss some good ones, as I don't watch NBA and rarely listen to LKL commentators on their web broadcasts

I also enjoyed Petrauskas voice and articulation and emotions generally, but I don't really find his game reading spot on and surely not deep. I still had some problems with his attitudes in "Ginčas" show last season or so, to me he still has very limited and artificial take on basketball I'm guessing it comes from the fact he does many other stuff, he's not 100% into basketball or sports, far from that.

As for Kunigelis and Vysniauskas I agree with Mindozas that they are over protective to the NT team. That's why Ceponis might be the most enjoyable commentator today because he doesn't afraid to say his opinion. If he thinks someone sucks, he will tell, maybe even too often

Anyway, I found those from weak branch irritating as hell, no improvement in years, obviously they are not listening to NBA commentators as well because they would learn few things obviously

I didn't hear how Rokas Grajauskas comments NBA game, but he's the best NBA analyst in Lithuania. He really does it well and he's all into NBA media and really understands.

I have only one requirement: they have mention at least once per game that Galdikas lifts

I don't consider Ceponis as commentator at all, tbh He is journalist, at times writes some interesting things about past talents, some inside info from these times, that's good, but as commentator he is poor. He has no tongue for it, has poor diction, his emotions is like from low level porn flick, so fake most of the times Overall lack of game reading, with the same terms like "pick and pop", "step out" repeating like "Our Father" - the more the better, it gets easily too annoying. Even before the game or especially after opening minutes, you can easily guess what he'll talk about all 40mins. Reminds me of some random guy in local pub, who gets some beer, talks all the time during the game, shouts and swears, says the same few facts he knows about some players again and again, can add some lame joke and can make his pals laugh. Good guy to hang around, I even had some beers and shots with him on my own during one event, but not for such job IMO. I don't buy these excuses from some guys like "Ceponis is funny", yeah, that's fun at times, if some random teams plays and you don't care too much what's happening, but well, if you need such fun, better watch some stand-up comedian show

It's possible not to like Ceponis, but how it's possible not to consider him a commentator? Why he's isn't a commentator and someone else is? For example some Kunigelis whose diction, emotions, game reading and understunding are IMO in a poor level, in a way worse than Ceponis's. And even if i don't like Kungelis, i can't say he's not a commentator. It would be a wrong statement just like regarding Ceponis.

Personally i don't have any problems listening to Lithuanian commentators. I think they are very decent. As for mentioned Kunigelis it's natural not to like everyone.

If I'll start to comment some game on TV, it won't make me a commentator all of sudden. If I'll try to fix a bath, I won't become a plumber. Guy is a journalist, who is not in his shoes tryin' to be a commentator, that's what I was tryin' to tell. If you like him - that's fine, it's subjective. I wrote why I don't find him a commentator and I won't. Kunigelis you described it's like that now, when he quit bein' a commentator and started to work in federation. Now he is more like those experts, who comes to the game to be a partner of the guys who comments the game (ex coaches, players and etc). In his best days he was a commentator Ceponis won't ever be close to
