Default Chinese in NCAA Div. I

Three Chinese freshmen made their NCAA debut this past week:

Zhang Zhenlin (Kevin Zhang), Tulane: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...n-zhang-1.html
Wang Quanze (Michael Wang), Penn: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...el-wang-1.html
Ou Junxuan (Michael Ou), Cal-State Northridge: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...hael-ou-1.html

Zhang scored 24 in his debut. Wang scored 14. Ou had 6.

Other Division I players from China:
Wang Yixiong (Johnny Wang), Cal-State Fullerton: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...ny-wang-1.html
Zhao Tianjian (James Zhao), California: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...es-zhao-1.html
Adil Kurban (Adili Kuerban), Kennesaw State: https://ksuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8623

Debut of Zhang Zhenlin, 6'9'' guard:

Very skilled offensively. Not surprising, since his mother Wang Fang played for China in 1992 Barcelona Olympics and was a WCBA coach for many years. Still has a lot of room to improve.

History of Chinese players in NCAA

    Ma Jian, Utah, 1993-95
Xia Chao (Aaron Xia), Citadel, 2003-06
    Shang Ping, Nebraska, 2007-08
    Ji Xiang, Hawaii, 2008-10
Zhang Zhaoxu (Max Zhang), California, 2008-10
Chang Lin, Long Beach State, 2009-11
Wang Zeming (Ted Wang), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 2010-13
    Xu Tao, San Francisco, 2012-14
Sun Hefeng (Grant Hefeng), Fresno State, 2011-12, Norfolk State, 2013-15
Tang Zihao (Chris Tang), UC-Riverside, 2014-15
    Sun Siyao, Cal-State Northridge, 2016-17
Zhao Qianjun (Alex Zhao), Penn State, 2016-17

Only Ma Jian and Zhang Zhaoxu ever made the Chinese NT (Ma Jian played in the Olympics before the NCAA). Roughly half of them returned to China and played in the CBA, and maybe only Chang Lin became a CBA star (very briefly).

    Women's Basketball:
Qu Hongyao (Sarah Weiler), Centenary, 2010-11
    Chen Yue, California, 2015-

Probably more but no WCBA talent. In contrast, probably half of China's best women's volleyball prospects are playing in the NCAA.

    Hong Kong players:
    Sung Fong, San Francisco, 1993-95
Siu Kin Fan (Jon Siu), Northern Illinois, 2015-18

Sung Fong was on the HK NT for a long time. Siu is in the ABL.

Taiwan/ethnic Chinese players: Probably post in another thread
