Allowances aside, the selling point of ADMU is that the team has a dedicated ex-NBA big man coach in Alton Lister

YDO got sent back to air21 by tnt because he shoots 3's instead of posting up (in contrast with hulking asi). the reason also why ervin sotto got benched for most of his career because he would rather shoot a jumper than post up. same reason why joe devance was traded into alaska. i remember a hardcourt (pba annual) issue wherein they called (negatively) rdo and ydo as guards trapped in bigman's body because they are more of perimeter players. another reason why mike hrabak did not last long in pba. i remember how they criticized kerby for taking 3's and 18 footers.
fast forward, FIBA game unveiled and blasted on PBA's face the importance shooting bigs in modern era. almost every big in the world can hit 18 footer jumpers and farther now.
Ervin Sotto didn't reach his potential was because he doesn't have the energy to run from one basket to another. Was always out muscled in the paint. He actually post up significantly during his rookie years.
The De Ocampo brothers were mixing it up with their inside - outside play. Both post up and shoot from the outside. RDO did more shooting in the perimeter because he can handle the ball better and can drive to the basket from the 3pt line.
M. Hrabak was really on the soft side and had problems guarding even local players in the paint.
I don't know who criticized Kerby, definitely not CYG. He even encourage his big man to shoot from the perimeter during red bull days.
Most of the teams back then had a PF who can shoot from the perimeter and some have Centers who also shoots in the perimeter. This was the start of PBA not anymore having defense 3 second violations.

lastly, we already saw guys like mick, ydo, rdo etc during 2000's, shooting bigs were still a taboo during those days. only CYG is the coach that gives license to bigs to shoot from beyond the arc back then.Last edited by ja.he; 04-04-2019, 02:50 AM.Attack

The replacement for Anton Asistio will come from the trio of Wong, Andrade and Jolo Mendoza. I personally like Wong because he can be a match up problem with his size, ability to help bring the ball down court when the opposing team start pressing ADMU and he can score as a slasher or bomb from the outside. BJ may have gone ahead of Jolo in the pecking order because he is not a defensive liability nor does he get rattled when opposing guards become physical. Wild card is Mamu as the teams designated defensive stopper at the wing position.Last edited by BLUE HORSE; 04-04-2019, 06:43 PM.
