They should not think of fast money right away as real money are in the pros... Pag nagmadali sila at nasilaw sa easy money, his promising pro career might be in jeopardy... Di madali maglipat, one year Redshirt can slow done his development, second the homegrown as well as Seniors in the team might have resentment, he has to build chemistry and adjust to his new team... Sa USTblalaro na lang siya. N

Not just money, baka na consider din sa time na pwede ka mainjured, sa history ng UST marami na yan, good thing lang at nakakabalik gradually, like Allein Maliksi, Cansino.

    • Amateurism works in a system that isn't capitalism. The players are laborers, they should get paid for labor.

They are students for Christ sake, not laborer in the first place... Ano ba nakukuha ng schools sa mga players? Its all for bragging rights, what the school gets from ABS CBN, from boosters are not enough to recoup the expenses. Lugi pa ang school dyan, di man sila kikita sa mga players nila... They are give Allowance(5-6 figures at that), board and lodging, free education and training to the athletes. Remember the school are jot just doing that in basketball but in other sports.. If there is something good about this saga, is that UAAP is contemplating of regulating the package given to students... As what I have been saying all along, tons of money will come in the Pros not from UAAP or collegiate league, barya lang kitain mo dyan comapred to the pros.Make sure you improve your game while still in UAAP and get ready yourself for the pros... Napag daanan lahat ng mga players natin from Jaworksi, Caidic, Ildefonso, Pingris, Yap kahit nina Ravena, nakita nio ba na nilako nila sarili nila sa highest bidder. No, because they know UAAP is just a stepping stone, real money is in the PBA or international if your good enough. Hope these kids wont get blinded by short term easy cash but should think of the long haul...

i agree. student atheletes should be paid. i dont care if it becomes commercialized as long as the atheletes get paid their due and not some league officials fattening up their pockets.

              Very correct.

And while these athletes sweat it out & kill themselves in the gym to keep themselves fit, what do these league officials do? Nagpapalaki ng kanilang tyan in an air conditioned room all day along?
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

              • NU and DLSU (not surprised) are pirating Abando. Pretty reminds me of how La Salle was able to poach Tyrus Hill and Kurt Lojera from Adamson. They are just using their financial clout to buy talents instead of using the money in developing players.

Oh come bro... As if di pa binabayaran ang mga players...You think Abando would transfer from Pangasinan to UST nang walang palitan ng pera... Besides he is receiving "Allowance" maybe in 5 to 6 figures. Who said i said i hate players getting paid, what I hate is the greed, di na kuntento, in the first place, when they are recruited by their initial schools, binayaran na rin mga yan, tapos may allowance, lodging and all... Di sana tinaasan nila presyo nila noon... Remember, this kids are students first, athletes second, theybare not Pro players that have contracts. Nagmamadali magpakayaman, when if they just play well in UAAP no matter what schools, they can earn pro cobtracts much bigger than those offered to them... See what happened to the likes of BJ Manalo, Bringas, Pinggoy, inuna muna ang pera from rich schools, where are they now..

Lets all agree though, that stusents shouod be given alowance but it should be regulated, hindi yung rich schools can offer the world to them. PANU naman ang mga schools na nagtiyaga magscout, recruit at develop ng players, only to be pirated..

If you hate greed, hate the oligarchs funding these schools. They have too much money. Why are you calling six figures an allowance?

Abando in this case is just misguided, in entertaining the offers of other schools mid season, can you imagine the distraction it causes to UST campaign. Even in professional leagues bawal yan yung tampering. Abando should have waited for the season to end, in courtesy to UST who recruited him in Pangasinan and build him up, and not just thinking about himself but the team. Saan ba ang DLSU at NU when he was a nobody, ngayong nabigyan na sia ng exposure ng UST, malakas na loob nila magpirate..

Money is not everything.. For sure money has been exchange from his transfer from Pangasinan to UST... MALI lang ng Abando family, they dis not huggle enougj, pero yun nga he was an unknown commodity then, nabigyan langbsia ng break ng UST who trained him and gave him PT and exposure. Again saan ang La Salle at NU noon.. If pera lang gusto nina Abando sana nag Pro na sia or nag MPBL. Besides money will come their way, wag lang magmadali... He will earm more in the pros eventually... Now on the contention na mahirap at kailangan nila ng money now, then he should have turned pro na right away. IN the same vain na, di wag na tayo magpaaral ng mga anak natin at patrabahuhin na natin para may kita kaagad. ... Fate has been unkind to those who cant wait, ilang careers na ba ang nasira because of lure of big money, remember those who have been involved in tag of wars, BJ Manalo, Bringas and Pingoy, saan sila ngayon... Had they stayed with their previous schools their fate woupd have been different..

As to the assumption that Players bring money to schools thru increase enrolment, come on guys, parents dont enrol their kids to UST or Feu or Ateneo because their UAAP Basketball is winning. We enrol our kids to US becasue they have the best premed courses not because of Abando, to Adamson because they are great in Computer and IT courses and not because of Ahanmisi. Besides even if UST has not won a championship for nearky a decade, they have the most Student among UAAP schools, not because of Abando or Chabi Yo...

                      • The situation of players are sort of synonymous with how the Doctors work in the hospital... You see after graduating Med School, most go into Residency Training(Specialty training). The Residents who works in the hospital almost daily working sometimes on 36 shifts, but just paid measly Allowance /Salary , during our time around 15,000 kasi in exchange tinitrain ka ng hospital na yan into whatever specialty you chose..But they cant chargr their Professional fee, kahit sila tumatao sa mga hospital.. Parang mga Players yan, they play their hearts out for pride and honor of the school... Now once the Resident or the player graduates, the Resident now becomes a Consultant, he can now charge his Professional fee which now range from 10-20x compared to that of his monthly salary as Resident... Same with our players, they just have to wait, once they graduate, becone Pro player, now they can name their price.. MAy mga kasama kami nagnagtakaw at nagmadali yumaman, nagsideline while on training, nahuli yun natanggal... Same also with our players...

Yes players should earn, and the player at the onset has the right to choose the school he wants to play.. Di maghanap siya ng school na mataas ang offer. Question is why was he not offered that same exact amount when he was starting or noong nirerecruit pa lang siya sa province.. Ngayong naginvest na ang school na nagrecruit sa kanya, they will just pirate when in the first place they did not bother recruiting him as a newby probinsyano...

just look at the how many TV timeouts abs-cbn does in one game. the ad revenues should go to the students-athletes as well.

This would make sense if there was a certainty of a good pro career after the UAAP. Jeric Teng is in the MPBL...

Same thing with medicine but thats OT

EDIT: Actually residents should be paid more but thats OT

Thats the reasin why, just like in California, there should also be a Law regulating the Allowances and Bonus given to players... Parang sa Pro na may Maximum or Mininmum sa Allowance... UAAP is starting to look like a Casino of the Rich... Masyado pampered ang mga players especially with allowances, imagine 3M sign in Bonus, talo pa ang rookies sa PBA. Kaya they overstay in the UAAP
Turning pro at 25...Back thenParas rurned pro at 19,Patrimonio at 21,even Yap at 21 or Romeo at 21...Ngayonnsi Abando, 22 yo rookie..

Kaya lumalaki ulo ng mga players akala nila sobrang galing na nila at primadonna, pag dating ng Pro, bangko lang at pang UAAP lang pala when they internationally for Gilas...

Allowance because there's no signed contract to show for. Just like a debt becomes loan when there's documents signed, or financial support becomes alimony after divorce. It's just semantics really, idk why you're so preoccupied with wordings rather than thought.
