      Latvia tournament Day 2:

Canada beat China 83-73 with a good Q4 (27-15), otherwise Canadian team less convincing than usual.

USA-Latvia 103-38, no history, Latvia stayed in the game just in the first minutes. Excellent display of US as a team, to be anyway tested against stronger challengers. Good 3-pt shooting from Charisma Osborne, also impressive Celeste Taylor, Cameron Brink and Paige Bueckers. Good quality streaming.

US beat Italy 86-48. They can play better, but this is obviously a much more talented group than the last one. Interesting that Brunelle has fallen out of the rotation after being one of the main players last year.

Japan gave France a good game but killed themselves with turnovers late.

France-Japan the most interesting game today, probably. Result was tied at 49 with less than 5' left, then Japanese girls gassed out, making a lot of mistakes and French bigs (Rupert & Chery) made the difference. Speedy Japan providing a lot of movement but surprisingly out of target on threes.

Very entertaining game between Belarus and Colombia with Belarus winning 79-75 in overtime. Colombia has added Miami-based Maria Alvarez (2019 South Florida commit) to their team this year and she hit ten threes, including two in the final 20 seconds of regulation to send the game to OT. Belarus had come back from 15 points behind to take the lead. Both teams will probably struggle against France and Japan.

Australia clearly won over Canada in prelim round D3, showing harsh defense and good schemes in attack especially in the 1st half. Aussie team is not as talented as 2016's but is well coached and solid. Shyla Heal and Lily Scanlon were the most efficient in the win. Canada has got athletic but somewhat raw players and the shooting selection looked really poor today.
Spain continues the losing streak (vs Hungary today) and will find Canada next, should be one of the most interesting Rof16 games.

Masterful defense of US team against Spain, that found all roads to basket closed today. Without a single point scored beyond the arc and totally outrebounded, Spanish team was soon out of contention. Magic game of Zia Cooke (perfect in shooting) and fine performance of Paige Bueckers as well.
                          Interesting sf pairings:

USA looking a lot sharper on offense today after too much individual play against Spain. And OMG they finally decided to press for a couple minutes!

Perhaps they got the idea from France, who used their press to overcome a 15-point halftime deficit in the first semifinal.

No history in the gold medal game, US girls looked like coming from another planet against France...29 assists (vs 6), 60 rebounds (vs 37), Iliana Rupert held scoreless, +52 the final margin.
Excellent U17 year for both US girls and boys, the most dominant ever.

                              All-Five:
                              Jordan Horston, USA (MVP)
                              Shyla Heal, AUS
                              Haley Jones, USA
                              Aliyah Boston, USA
                              Iliana Rupert, Fra

Honorable mention imho to Paige Bueckers, relentless and great passer with 10 assists in the final game.

Australia got the nod over Hungary for the bronze just in the final minutes, thanks to Heal's heroics.

Good finish of Italy (5th over under par Spain).

Four US team members, Boston, Brunelle, Bueckers and Van Lith added another impressive gold at the Youth Olympic Games 3x3 tournament, going unbeaten 7-0 and after dominant wins in sf (21-9 vs China) and in the final (18-4 vs France). Boston and Bueckers led the team in the final day.
