  • Exhibition games prior to qualification rounds

Is anyone aware of any exhibition games played before this phase of qualifying? I know the US played Mexico in a friendly in Los Angeles during the NBA All-star weekend, but it doesn't appear most NTs have time to scrimmage. Thoughts?

I wouldn’t read to much into it. China has apparently split their teams into two to give some younger guys experience leading up to the world Cup. I wouldn’t say Canada was looking too crisp just that the talent disparity was immense. Good to see RJ look like he belongs as the starting SG even at 18 years old. At least with this roster.

Glad to see Croatia has those guys. It would be a crime if they weren't in the World Cup, as good as they are.

Canada smashed China's "Blue" team again last night. Not much to read out of this but a few quick hit observations.

            - Sure hoping Kelly Olynyk was just being rested and not hurt - didnt play last night and not much on Friday
-Expected Canada to be more serious in its prep efforts, with tighter, real game like rotations
            - But this Chinese team was very weak & the talent gap was huge
            - Phil Scrubb not with team last night is worrying (supposedly working out with the Wizards and will be on their SummerLeague team)). CoJo better be playing as our PG situation could be ugly
            - Impressed with 18 year olds RJ Barrett & Andrew Nembhard as both belonged out there. RJ was player of the game - and looks like our best 2 guard.
            - China sucked was a little dirty & the FIBA game is way rougher than NBA. Clearly it frustrates our guys. Or is the book on Canada just to rough them up to get them off their game and slow down their athleticism?
            - Olivier Hanlan didn’t play in either game. Wondering if hurt?
            - 3pt shooting & wing play was fantastic. Defense pretty good both games too. Still fairly week inside defense but hopefully Khem Birch helps there.
            - But still fairly sloppy play. Not crisp at all. Just overwhelmed China with so much more talent. Should do the same with DR & USVI
            - Would really liked to see KO out there more building chemistry with Brooks, RJ, Powell who with CoJo, I think should be the starters vs DR
            - with this much talent on home soil, both these upcoming games should be blowouts. Points matter here so hopefully the step on the gas

Nigeria and the Ivory Coast split a pair of friendlies, Ivorians winning the first game 68-66 and Nigeria winning the rematch 79-60. Apparently the Nigerians are still waiting for some players to arrive.

Article on the first game, scoring totals listed with the players first names for some reason:
La C?te d’Ivoire pr?pare le deuxi?me rendez-vous des ?liminatoires de la Coupe du Monde 2019. En amical face au Nig?ria, les El?phants se sont impos?s dans les derniers instants de la partie 68-66. La rencontre s’est tenue samedi 23 Juin dernier au D?me du Palais des Sports de Treichville.

There was a tournament in Istanbul that included some African and Asian teams (but not Turkey). Cameroon won with a perfect 5-0 record. "Unknown Team" is Bahrain:

Great finds! I knew about the Molten Cup in Istanbul, but not the Nigeria-Ivory Coast match-ups.

That has to be a pretty big win for the Ivory Coast. It seems like Nigeria, Tunisia, Angola, and Egypt always emerge out of Africa other than 2014 with Senegal.

Now that there's five spots though things should get more interesting. The smart money is on those four plus Senegal but I don't think it's a lock.

The real question is, will any of these lower-level African NTs ever overtake Egypt and Tunisia?

Finland played vs Latvia, and in Wednesday they will play vs Lithuania. Boxscore:

There will be tournament in France(home team, Montenegro, Greece) and in Germany(home team, Turkey, Italy, Czech Republic).

Bosnia and Herzegovina and Belgium will play preparation game in Bosnia. Belgium will not come just for that game, they will have their own preparations in Bosnia, second time in a year, as it seems they like it here.
Due to his elegance and imagination, Mirza Delibasic was one of the continent's greatest ever players.

Lithuanian NT has delayed the preparation camp. Thus, Finland will play against Vilnius Perlas club (farmer club of Vilnius Rytas).
