The African qualifiers are not working on a home-and-away system, instead each group will have two legs where the teams gather at a single site and play each other over three days. Groups A and C get underway in Yaounde and Luanda this window, while Groups B and D will start in February. All four groups will have their second leg in the June/July window when player availability is presumably easier.

Some interesting games today...Egypt needed a late three to take Congo to overtime before winning...Cameroon was down 60-50 to Chad with about six minutes left, then outscored them 15-0 for the remainder of the game to pull out the win.

Caught the replay of Angola/Egypt. Good game, great crowd, think the announced attendance was 10,000. That said it had plenty of the dreaded vuvuzelas.

FIBA will make a resolution in Nigeria's basketball leadership crisis where NBBF are eagerly awaiting the ruling. Decision is on March 10 and I hope it's a not suspension.

I really wonder who will come out as Africa's consistent top team, if anybody? Senegal still has some really major players but Congo has so much young talent, and you also have Cameroon and the unstoppable Embiid. Then there is the hugely populated Nigeria and the traditional powers Egypt, Angola, and Tunisia.

Imo it will be between Nigeria and Congo or Senegal but Cameroon will be a force if Embiid is cleared to play for them at some point.

Central African Republic team on their way to Dakar:
Dans le cadre de la phase retour du premier tour des ?liminatoires de la coupe du monde 2019, l'?quipe nationale centrafricaine vient de quitter Tunis (Tunisie) ce mercredi apr?s dix jours de stage pour Dakar, la capitale s?n?galaise, o? elle est attendue...

Lebanon-based Johndre Jefferson, part of the TBT-dominating Overseas Elite team, has been added as a naturalized player.

Senegal roster with Gorgui Dieng, no Maurice Ndour or Hamady Ndiaye:

Overseas Elite are becoming the stuff of legend, I swear.

Senegal will definitely have issues without N'Dour but basketball is about next man up. It should be interesting to see who, if anybody, can fill his shoes.

DRC has now beaten both Angola and Egypt in this short window of qualifying games. Wow.

Nigeria could potentially wrap up qualification tomorrow if they beat Central African Republic and Mali and Rwanda both lose.

Given the format for Africa we could see 2 or 3 teams qualify by Tuesday.

Nigeria is as close to a lock as you can get, 2 games at home and they only need 1 to qualify. Given their dominance it seems like a safe bet. Tunisia and Senegal also have chances, though Senegal has to deal with Nigeria.
