  • Recalcati confirms big changes for Italy

Sounds like Italy is running out of luck for the WC2006.

RIETI (FIBA World Championship) - Italy coach Carlo Recalcati has confirmed that experienced trio Giacomo Galanda, Massimo Bulleri and Roberto Chiacig will not play in the FIBA World Championship in August.

The three players, who were starters for the Azzurri at the EuroBasket in Serbia & Montenegro, will not be included in his 12 man squad for Japan.

Armani Jeans Milano shooting guard Dante Calabria, BC Khimki playmaker Gianmarco Pozzecco and Lottomatica Roma's Alex Righeti are out due to injury.

The only players set to return to the Azzurri camp are Barcelona duo Gianluca Basile and Denis Marconato.

"Galanda remains the Italy captain even if he will remain at home," said Recalcati.
"All of the players that have been excluded are clearly disappointed which shows their love for the Azzurri colours.

"As I had already anticipated, this summer is all about youth."

Recalcati will nevertheless hope to recover Benetton captain Matteo Soragna, who is currently out of action having fractured his hand early in the Lega A play-offs.

Italy will point strongly at Benetton's rising star Andrea Bargnani and Climamio Bologna's Marco Belinelli.

Bargnani is set to be picked in a high position in the NBA draft which could pose some problems for Recalcati.

"They are both young players that have already some international experience," said Recalcati.

"Bargnani will be drafted by an NBA team on June 28 and for the first time, we face a reality like this one, but we hope to have him available to prepare for the World Championship."
